Athens, 27 Oct (Xinhua) -- On 27 October, Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis met with visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Athens.

Wang Yi first conveyed the cordial greetings of the Chinese leader to Mitsotakis. Wang Yi said: China and Greece are the source and representative of the two major civilizations, the East and the West, and the people of the two countries have friendly feelings toward each other. This year, we officially launched the China-Greece Cultural Tourism Year, injecting new vitality into bilateral relations. A few days ago, the collection and transmission of the flames of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games was successfully completed in Greece, injecting positive energy into the Olympic spirit. China is willing to work with Greece to jointly build the "Belt and Road" with high quality, build the port of Piraeus into a world-class port, accelerate the construction of the China-Europe Land-Sea Express, and expand new areas of cooperation such as renewable energy.

Mitsotakis asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to China's leaders. He said that the Greek side attaches great importance to developing relations with China and has never agreed with the anti-China and "China-fear" arguments in the international community. The cooperation between Bahru and Hong Kong has been a great success, creating a win-win landmark cooperation project. The Greek side is willing to take the launch of the Year of Cultural Tourism as an opportunity to continue to deepen cooperation in various fields between the two sides. Greece is willing to expand cooperation in green development, scientific and technological innovation and jointly address global challenges such as climate change.

Mizotakis said that this year will be held in Greece to hold a forum on the philosophy of Aristotle and Confucius, hoping to use this as a platform to deepen the exchanges and mutual learning between the two major civilizations of the East and the West.

The two sides also exchanged views on China-EU relations. Wang Yi said that Central Europe is a partner, not an opponent. The two sides should revitalize China-EU relations through dialogue on an equal footing in the spirit of mutual respect, and hope that Greece will continue to play a constructive role in the stable development of China-EU relations. Mitsotakis said that Greece supports the EU in developing friendly relations with China and believes that the EU and China can achieve long-term and healthy development of bilateral relations through full communication and exchanges.

On the same day, Wang Yi also held talks with Greek Foreign Minister Dendias.
