The density of iron oxide red is 5~5.25g/cm3, non-toxic, and the melting point is 1565°C. It is insoluble in water and all bases, and only gradually dissolves in strong acids such as hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid at high temperatures. It has excellent lightfastness, high temperature resistance and pollution resistance, atmospheric resistance, weather resistance and so on. The coatings industry is the largest application area for iron oxide red in China, and China's coating production is constantly increasing. In 2019, China's coatings production was 24.388 million tons, an increase of 2.60% over the previous year; in 2020, China's coatings production was 24.591 million tons, an increase of 0.83% over the previous year.

From 2016 to 2019, China's iron oxide red production capacity continued to expand, and the capacity utilization rate gradually declined, and the market was in a state of overcapacity. In 2019, China's iron oxide red production capacity was 351,000 tons, an increase of 1.7% from 345,000 tons in 2018, and the capacity utilization rate was 70.20%.

Affected by the overall economic environment, the economic growth rate of China's iron oxide red industry has slowed down in 2020, but it has still maintained a relatively stable trend. China's iron oxide red production in 2020 was about 244,000 tons, down 1.0% from 246,000 tons in 2019.
