Because the leader of the Donglin Party, Yang Liandaicao, impeached Wei Zhongxian's superior, he was hated by Wei Zhongxian, and was later arrested and imprisoned, and died tragically in prison in the sixth year of the Apocalypse (1626).

　　In the face of power, Miao Changqi was "not contemptuous, not greedy, and unyielding" and adhered to the nature of loyalty and martyrhood. During the Ming Dynasty's apocalyptic years, Wei Zhongxian, an eunuch official of the Eastern Factory, arbitrarily ruled the state affairs, claiming to be nine thousand years old, and the people of the country dared not speak out. Once, Wei Zhongxian pre-built a tomb for himself at Yuquan Mountain and asked Miao Changqi to write an inscription, but Miao Changqi sternly refused. Wei Zhongxian held a grudge against him. In the fourth year of the Apocalypse (1624), yang Lian, the left deputy capital, participated in the impeachment and listed the twenty-four major crimes of Wei Zhongxian, which triggered heated discussions in the government and the public, and the capital spread that this article was written by Miao Changqi. Wei Zhongxian became angry and used his power to vigorously eliminate the famous sages, Yang Lian, Zuo Guangdou and others were brutally killed, and Miao Changqi was also stripped of his post and returned home.

　　In the sixth year of the Apocalypse (1626), Miao Changqi was arrested for Wang Wenyan's imprisonment. Knowing that he would die on this trip, he paid homage to the temple of his family and made a generous statement: "Yu Xing is true but not strong, straight and irritable, kind and fierce, all kinds of deficiencies, common to all, but dare not betray the king for personal gain, deceive and sell friends." As for this, righteousness disdains to use the three dynasties as a body to nourish himself, and insults the hands and ears of dog slaves and thieves!" In prison, Miao Changqi was tortured repeatedly, and in only one month, he lost his skin and lost all his ten fingers, but he always had awe-inspiring righteousness and did not say a word, and finally died tragically in prison, and the death was the most tragic in the history of the Ming Dynasty for more than 270 years. In the early years of Chongzhen, Miao Chang was able to rehabilitate Zhaoxue and was posthumously awarded the zhan shifu zhan shi and the attendant of the Hanlin Academy, Yu Wenzhen.
