A native of Weigong Village, Mancheng County, Hebei Province. He studied at the Hebei Provincial Water Conservancy School. In 1922, he graduated from the eighth section of the Artillery Section of the Baoding Army Officer School.

In the spring of 1933, he was appointed colonel of the 115th Brigade of the 39th Division of the 40th Army of the National Revolutionary Army. When he led his troops to defend the Luo Wenyu Great Wall in Houjiazhai Township, Zunhua City, Hebei Province, he twice sent the battalion commander Li Zhenqing to lead the elite soldiers, slashed hundreds of Japanese troops with a large knife, won a complete victory and returned to the camp, was commended by the commander, and was named "Iron Blood Regiment".

After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he graduated from the senior class of the "Lushan Officer Training Regiment" and was promoted to brigadier general of the 115th Brigade, and in late August, he led his troops to participate in the Battle of Yaoguantun in Cangxian County, and from September 21 to 24, he fought a bloody battle with the 10th Division of the Japanese Army's Alum Valley Ryosuke for four days, shooting down a Heavy Japanese bomber.

In February 1938, he led his troops to completely annihilate more than 300 Japanese troops who secretly attacked the south gate of Juxian City. In March, at the Battle of Linyi Tangtou, he led his troops to fight desperately with the Japanese army for six days and six nights, and annihilated more than 400 enemy troops at Fujiatun.

On May 11, he led his troops to cover the lightly armored breakthrough of the whole army and was surrounded by Japanese troops. Not afraid of danger, he fought bravely, and was unfortunately shot on May 12, and died heroically at the age of 46.

In August 1988, he was posthumously recognized as a martyr.

In 2014, it was included in the first batch of 300 famous anti-Japanese heroes and heroes.
