The Chinese national chess team sent 12 players to participate in the 2021 Cyber Olympiad, and Bu Xiangzhi, head coach of Qingdao Chess Junior Team, and Xu Zhixing, player of Qingwei Chess Club, were on the list. Born in 1985, Bu Xiangzhi is a regular visitor to the National Elephant Olympiad, and in 2006, in the 37th Chess Olympiad Team Competition, he led the Chinese men's team to the team runner-up with the first 4 wins and 8 and unbeaten record, and reached the podium for the first time. Xu Zhixing, born in 2001, was selected for the first time as a new force in the online Olympiad roster. Refresh the best results of the Cyber Olympiad

The competition is divided into two stages: the preliminary round and the final. The preliminary stage starts in groups from low to high team level, and the winner is promoted to the previous zone to continue the battle. The Chinese team participates directly in the top zone as a seeded team. The 40 teams in the top zone are divided into four groups, and the top two in each group advance to the final stage of the competition. In the end, Kazakhstan and China qualified from Group A. The Chinese team swept the Polish team, which was the first in Group D, in the quarterfinals and advanced to the final four, and met the Russian team in the semifinals, and finally lost two legs to the opponent and missed the final.

Despite the defeat, the competition still refreshed the best result of the Chinese team in the Online Olympiad. In the inaugural tournament of 2020, the Chinese team lost to the Ukrainian team in the sudden death of the fast chess game in the quarter-final battle, stopping the round of twelve.
