Kneigett has suffered two previous accidents, having suffered fires in his home in January 2019, with varying degrees of burns to his face, chest, legs and feet, and shortly after he collided with a forklift in an accident, seriously injuring his left leg.

In October 2019, Kneiget returned to the ice rink and began preparing for his comeback. At the 2020 Dordrecht Short Track World Championships, Kneigert competed in the 1500m, 1000m and 5000m relays.
