Peng Jiamu is a plant virologist, biochemist, and vice president of the Xinjiang Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, specializing in biochemistry research. As the leader of the scientific expedition team who went deep into Lop Nur for the third time, he left Urumqi on May 3, 1980, led the team into the "Sea of Death" Lop Nur and unfortunately disappeared when he left the team alone on June 17 to find water. At the beginning of 1982, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government posthumously recognized Peng Jiamu as a revolutionary martyr, and in October 1982, the Party Committee and Government of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region issued a call to learn from the revolutionary martyr Comrade Peng Jiamu.

Peng Jiamu, vice president of the Xinjiang Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences
Since 1964, Peng Jiamu has gone to Xinjiang 15 times for scientific investigations, and 3 times into Lop Nur, one of the four major uninhabited areas in China, for expeditions and scientific expeditions. He has made indelible contributions to the scientific research and construction of the frontier of the motherland, the research of plant viruses in China, the installation of large-scale precision instruments, and the determination of electron microscope resolution. Is a remarkable scientist.
Pengamu in his youth
However, it is such an old qualified scientist who mysteriously disappeared during the third expedition to Lop Nur and has not been found until now, it is that there is no one alive or dead, it seems that the human world has evaporated, and inexplicably disappeared without a trace. After Peng jiamu disappeared, the state also organized several large-scale three-dimensional searches, but finally found nothing. Pengjiamu is like a breeze, which disappears suddenly, leaving only many unfathomable legends, and also leaving endless speculations for future generations.
Pengam's Missing Place
How did Pengam disappear? What happened to him that day? Over the years, there have been many confusions and divergent opinions, and there is no authoritative conclusion. But the legends about Pengam are endless, what Pisces Jade Pei incident, Peng jia mu was copied; what Peng Jia Mu found the alien base, was plundered by aliens; what Peng Jia Mu discovered the earth's earth's earth, abducted by the Americans and so on.
Pengam was experimenting
In fact, even from a scientific point of view today, there are still many places that are difficult to explain. Like what:
(1) Peng Jiamu is a phytochemist and plant virologist, mainly studying the virus control of crops, so what did he go to Lop Nur in the barren land of no grass? Visiting Lop Nur is the business of geologists and mineral experts. Pengam, a plant virologist, went deep into Lop Nur three times, saying that he was going to find heavy water resources, which did not seem to be his specialty or his duty. Moreover, the expedition he led did not have a single geological staff. What is the reason for this? It's weird.
Expeditionary team marching route
(2) The note left by Pengam reads: I went east to find the well! Peng 17/6 :(10:30). This is a bit intriguing, first of all, the date on this note has been changed, 16 has been changed to 17, and the traces of the alteration are obvious. Whether Peng himself wrote it wrong and changed it, or whether someone else changed it later, there is no conclusion. Secondly, the scientific expedition team had already sent a distress telegram to the PLA troops stationed in Malan, Xinjiang, the day before (that is, at 10:00 p.m.) requesting the transfer of water and gasoline, and the troops had already replied, promising to provide assistance immediately. Isn't that contradictory? The third is that there are a total of 10 people in this expedition team, and it is in the hot desert, everyone gathers under the car to avoid the hot sun, Peng Jiamu left the team alone, is it necessary to write a note? Just say no, fast and easy.

(3) Pengamu went out to find water, and carried plant specimens with him without a map, which was very abnormal and illogical. Leave the team to find water, why don't you need specimens? Isn't it cumbersome to carry on your body? The desert is extremely hot, people hide under the car and can't stand it, Pengam is an old man with cancer, going out to find water to take the specimen? This is illogical and counterintuitive.
Pengam
(4) It is also strange that several subsequent large-scale searches have yielded no results. Pengam is an old man with cancer, how far can he go in the Sea of Death? Besides, Peng Jiamu is very familiar with Xinjiang and no stranger to Lop Nur and has crossed Lop Nur three times, and it can be said that no one knows the climate of Lop Nur better than him. So he left the team alone to find water, he should know the risks involved, and how far will he go? After he finds that there is no water, he will definitely return, and it is impossible to go all the way to disappear, unless he deliberately or deliberately avoids other colleagues, or he encounters some danger.
Helicopters were used to search for Pengam
(5) In 2016, a dry corpse was found in Lop Nur Zhong, much like Peng jiamu, which had been missing for many years. In order to confirm, the relevant departments asked Peng jiamu's son to do DNA testing, but his son refused. That's a bit of a stretch! How many years has the father disappeared, and now it is hard to have some clues, just do the test to know whether it is the father, why does Peng jiamu's son not agree? This is something that others can't ask for! This is unreasonable, unless the son already knows the inside story, or there are some unspeakable secrets that are inconvenient to say.
Pengam (right) joins the labor force
In fact, the above doubts are only the tip of the iceberg, and there are many irrational places. But there are a few facts that look like this:
30 years ago, public security and rescue teams jointly searched for Pengam
(1) On May 3, 1980, the day of departure was a Saturday, the team members' homes were in Urumqi, everyone was resting, and everyone unanimously hoped to finish this weekend, wait for Monday to leave again, and leave for 2 days to deal with household chores, but Peng Jiamu refused. Since Peng is the vice president of the Xinjiang Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the leader of the expedition team, everyone's request is invalid, and they have to obey Peng Jiamu's decision. But everyone's heart is definitely uncomfortable, with mustard. It's just that people at that time were very simple, organized and disciplined, obeying orders and listening to commands, unlike people today.
The place where Pengammu disappeared
(2) The expedition team set off in a large truck and 2 off-road vehicles, and by June 7, they had successfully crossed Lop Nur to the southern Xinjiang town of Milan, and according to the original plan, the expedition work had ended here, and the time had been carried out for a month and four days, and the team members wanted to go home. However, at this time, Peng jiamu proposed not to follow the original plan to return the route, but asked to go east from Milan, through Donglik, Luowazhai, Shanlanzi, Kumukuduk Desert, Tak Kuduk, Hongshijing, Kaiyuan, Dong no. 1, take the Tursun north, and finally return to Urumqi. This was not in the original plan, the time would take at least half a month, the team members had already arranged other things before, but despite their reluctance, everyone obeyed Pengam's decision. But fuel and drinking water are certainly not enough. In addition, car wear parts, such as tires, also need to be maintained or replaced, and the driver raised this issue, and Peng Jiamu prevaricated on the grounds that although he was the vice president, he did not care about the administration.
The heart of Lake Lop Nur
(3) By the time the expedition reached about 10 kilometres west of Kumukuduk, there was little water or oil left. Peng Jiamu personally drafted the telegram and asked for help from a certain unit of the People's Liberation Army stationed in Malan. The message reads as follows:
The nameless corpse in Lop Nur
We arrived 10 kilometers west of Kumukuduk at about 12 o'clock today, we are short of oil and water, please urgently support 1,000 pounds of water and oil, please transport here on the 18th. Also, catch a wild camel, please tell Urumqi. Yangtze!
An expedition in search of Pengam
Yangtze River is the code name of the scientific expedition team. After receiving the distress call, the Maran base immediately asked for instructions, and after obtaining consent, decided to allocate materials and use aircraft to rush. Since then, the scientific expedition team and the Malan base have exchanged telegrams many times, and the Malan base has also told the "Yangtze River" that the plane will arrive in Kumukuduk on the 18th, so you should not move and stand by.
A note left by Pengam
But strangely, when everything was arranged, Pengam suddenly proposed to solve the problem of water shortage, gasoline he could not solve, but water could be found by himself. He said: "It is too expensive to send water by plane, and we try to find water sources ourselves to save money for the country." He advised the expedition team to drive out to find water. At that time, there was not much gasoline left, and it was not cost-effective to drive out to find water, and moreover, it was uncertain whether water could be found. The team members advised him not to do this, or to wait for the rescue of the troops. (To be continued).
