Moluccas is a group of archipelagos on the islands of northeastern Indonesia. It belongs to maluku province, with the islands of Hamahela, Seran and Buru. It is bordered by Celebes (Sulawesi in Indonesian) and the Moluccas Sea to the west, New Guinea and the Sea of Celan to the east, the Arafura Sea and timor sea to the south, and the Philippines, Philippine Sea and Pacific Ocean to the north. The coastal population is mainly Christian and Muslim, while most of the inland residents believe in spiritualism.

Spice production and trade flourished until the 16th century. The European colonial rulers were devastated after occupation and produced only a small amount.
Long before Europeans heard of the "Spice Islands", cloves from northern Marugul and nutmeg from the central islands were already traded in Asia. The Portuguese arrived in 1511. This led to a dispute for the next hundred years. [1] First the Portuguese clashed with the Ternate and Tidore Sultans, followed by clashes between the Portuguese and the Spaniards, the British and the Dutch, and the Dutch won. The struggle for control of the region during this period has cost many lives. The victorious Dutch won huge profits. But by the end of the 18th century, the spice trade had declined dramatically, and the Moluca economy had become a backwater.
