This species mainly inhabits coral reefs, rock reefs or seaweed-intensive environments, with a water depth of 10-297 m. Capable of camouflage, it often hides its body from being easily discovered, allowing it to quickly catch small fish and crustaceans for food like rabbits. The dorsal fin has poisonous glands under the spines and is a dangerous creature in the sea. The maximum body length can reach 23 cm. It has no economic value other than academic research. It is found in the Indo-Pacific.
