Morphological characteristics of eels

There are many kinds of fish, and some fish people have only heard its name, but have not seen its body. The following small series will introduce what are the morphological characteristics of eels.

The eel's juvenile body is about 6 cm long and weighs 0.1 grams, but its head is small, and its body is tall, thin and transparent like a leaf, so it is called "willow leaf fish". Its body fluids are almost the same as seawater, so it can be easily drifted along long distances with ocean currents. It takes about half a year to drift from the spawning grounds back to the Kuroshio Current and back to the coast of Taiwan, and only a month before reaching the shore does it begin to metamorphose into a slender and transparent eel line, also known as a glass fish.

Therefore, from December to January every year, fishermen are busy fishing for eels that are about to be traced on the coast near the mouth of the river to sell to farmers. Farmers slowly appear in color after buying it back for stocking, turning into yellow juvenile eels and silver adult eels. Under natural conditions, the largest individual of eels that can be caught is 45 cm and weighs 1600 g.
