Recently, the Donggong Court of the Nanzhang Court of Xiangyang City held a public hearing of an 84-year-old man suing for the maintenance of six children, and after the judge's patient and meticulous guidance and publicity and education on the rule of law, the two sides reached a maintenance agreement and performed it on the spot.

The plaintiff, Guo Mou, is 84 years old and has six children, including three daughters and three sons, all of whom are now married. The plaintiff has been living alone, mainly relying on the care of the eldest daughter Yu Moufeng, who lives in the same village. In the summer of 2019, the plaintiff Guo Mou accidentally fell at home, resulting in a fractured thigh and unable to take care of himself. Village cadres repeatedly organized six children to negotiate a maintenance plan without success, and the elderly entrusted others to file a lawsuit with the court.

Considering that Guo Mou was old, had limited mobility, and lived in a place with high mountains and long roads, Wang Kun, vice president of the Donggong Court of the Nanzhang Court, took the cadres and policemen, took the file, carried the national emblem, and came to Lotus Village to open the trial. Through circuit trials, local cases are handled, and the effect of hearing one case and educating one piece is achieved.

After more than an hour of running, Wang Kun and his party came to Lotus Village, and after careful arrangement, the circuit court was simple, but it did not lose its solemnity and majesty. The nearby masses heard that the judge was handling the case on the spot and gathered around the scene of the trial to watch.

At 10:00 a.m. on the same day, accompanied by a crisp sound of the gavel, the court officially opened. The plaintiff, Guo, is over eighty years old, unable to take care of himself, and needs special care, and his six children have a big dispute over how to support the elderly. The judge proposed two schemes: one is to send the elderly to a welfare home, the cost of which is borne by the children, and the other is to live in the home of one of the children, sharing the cost. None of the six children agreed to send the elderly to a welfare home, but none of them wanted to take the elderly to live in their own homes.

The judge who heard the case communicated with the six children separately because of the situation. With the strong support of local village cadres, the two sides reached a mediation agreement: the eldest daughter, Yu Moufeng, was responsible for taking care of the elderly, and the other five people paid alimony ranging from 300 yuan to 700 yuan per month according to the actual difficulties of the family. The defendant paid three months' alimony on the spot, and the crowd erupted into warm applause.

The Jimu News reporter learned that Nanzhang County is a mountainous county, with high mountains and long roads, and inconvenient transportation. In recent years, the people's courts in Nanzhang County have responded to the expectations of the masses, increased the intensity of circuit trials, and moved the courts to the doorsteps of the people to facilitate mass litigation, which has been generally welcomed by the people.
