Beijing released the phased results of the Biodiversity Survey yesterday
70 newly recorded species were found in Beijing
Yesterday, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment released the phased results of the biodiversity survey. Beijing Youth Daily reporter learned that in 2020, the city launched a biodiversity survey, and 5086 species of various species have been recorded on the ground, and 70 new record species in Beijing have been found, including 12 new record species in China. It is planned that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the city will achieve full coverage of the survey grid and dynamically find out the background of the city's biodiversity.
The city divided 212 grids to conduct surveys
Beijing is one of the most biodiverse metropolises in the world and one of the most bird-rich capitals in the world. During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the city's ecological environment status index (EI) climbed year after year, from 64.2 in 2015 to 70.2 in 2020, an increase of 9.3%. The area of Beijing accounts for about 0.17% of the country's land area, and the number of plant species accounts for about 8% of the total number of the country. At present, the proportion of birds with accurate records in Beijing accounts for more than one-third of the number of bird species in the country, which is unique among northern cities in China. These are all microcosm of Beijing's biodiversity.
According to Cao Zhiping, director of the Ecology Department of the Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, in accordance with the relevant technical standards of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, in 2020, the city will be divided into 212 grids, and a comprehensive survey will be carried out on the diversity of some grid ecosystems and the diversity of mammals, birds, amphibians, fish, insects, algae and other species.
It is reported that on the basis of last year's survey, the city has formulated a biodiversity survey plan for Beijing from 2021 to 2025, and plans to achieve full coverage of the survey grid during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period to dynamically find out the background of the city's biodiversity.
A total of 5,086 species of various species were recorded on the ground
In the background survey work in 2020, the staff has recorded a total of 5,086 species in the field.
"In the survey, we found animals such as the Northeast hedgehog and weasels in the central urban area, and also found birds of prey such as the Japanese pine sparrowhawk and the red-footed falcon, reflecting that in recent years, the central urban area has increased the urban green area in a variety of ways, providing a richer habitat for wild animals." Cao Zhiping said.
In addition, in the plain area of Beijing, more forest birds such as white-headed grebes and woodpeckers have been found, amphibians and reptiles such as black-spotted side-fold frogs, Chinese forest frogs, chifeng golden snakes, and fish such as horsefish and blackfin carp have been found, indicating that in recent years, through afforestation and afforestation of millions of mu, the construction of country parks and the restoration of rivers and lakes and wetlands, the green ecological space has been expanded and the biodiversity has become richer.
In recent years, the ecological conservation area is a biodiversity-rich area in Beijing, and in recent years, the areas with the best ecosystem quality in Beijing have been effectively protected by adhering to ecological conservation, strengthening the construction of nature reserves, habitat protection, and water ecological restoration. The survey found threatened species such as the blue-headed diving duck, the brown horse chicken, the large-flowered orchid, and the rotunda shellfish, as well as the ocelot, the spiny horn snake spring fly, the purple lime and other wild animals and plants under national key protection, as well as the wild boar, soft jujube kiwifruit, eleuthero and other key protected wild animals and plants in Beijing.
Most of the new species recorded are moss, insects, and macromygi
According to statistics, in the background survey work in 2020, 70 new record species in Beijing were found, including 40 bryophytes, 3 vascular plants, 16 insects and 11 macrofungal species. Among them, 12 new species were recorded in China, including 11 species of macromygi and 1 species of insects. Liu Chunlan, vice president of the Beijing Academy of Environmental Protection Sciences, introduced that the vast majority of new species are discovered due to insufficient historical investigation and basic research, and no one has yet discovered and recorded them. There are also some species that do not yet have the conditions for identification. The vast majority of the 70 newly recorded species discovered are mosses, insects and macromygi that are not of concern to scientists.
"The living environment of moss is special, generally living in a particularly hidden niche, and there are many bryophyte species that can only be discovered by us during special growth cycles, so the survey generally does not involve the taxa of moss." But last year we included a moss-specific survey in which a total of 40 new species were recorded. Liu Chunlan said. Improved air quality in urban areas Fireflies are found in urban parks
Liu Chunlan, vice president of the Beijing Academy of Environmental Protection Sciences, said that in this survey, Beijing found that a number of representative indicative species were recorded. These species have particularly strict requirements for the living environment, and their large number of occurrences have a certain indication effect on the quality of the local ecological environment.
"For example, the buttercup and blackfin carp recorded in Beijing are indicator species recognized by experts for good water quality." Liu Chunlan said, "During the survey last year, in the rivers of Haidian and Changpingdi, we found these indicative species, which to a certain extent shows that the governance and ecological restoration of our urban rivers have achieved certain results." ”
In addition, fireflies were found in the city park. "Fireflies have particularly high requirements for the ecological environment, need fresh air, clean water, lush plants, it is also particularly sensitive to light, where there is light interference it will not survive, so it is particularly sensitive to environmental changes." Liu Chunlan said, "In last year's survey, we not only found fireflies in the mountainous areas of Haidian, Mentougou and Pinggu, but also in urban parks in Dongcheng, Haidian, Shijingshan, Daxing District and other places, which also indicates the improvement of the ecological environment quality of urban areas to a certain extent." ”
Soliciting a logo for a nature reserve to guide public participation in conservation
The Beiqing Daily reporter learned from the Municipal Landscaping Bureau that the city will launch the Beijing Nature Reserve logo public solicitation activity this weekend, expand the publicity effect of nature reserves and biodiversity, and guide the general public to pay attention to supporting nature reserves and actively participate in biodiversity conservation.
According to statistics, by the end of 2020, Beijing has a total of 79 nature reserves in 5 categories, including nature reserves, scenic spots, forest parks, wetland parks and geoparks, covering an area of about 3680 square kilometers, accounting for about 22% of the urban area. According to the relevant person in charge of the Natural Protected Area Management Department of the Municipal Landscaping Bureau, the public solicitation of logos in Beijing will be launched this weekend and last until July 22, and it is planned to complete the logo screening, optimization design and final draft at the end of September, and announce it to the public in a timely manner.
In addition, the Municipal Landscaping Bureau has produced a "Nature Reserve - Home for the Harmonious Coexistence of All Things" theme propaganda film on nature reserves and biodiversity conservation, which will be broadcast on the display screens of municipal parks and nature reserves from May 22 to guide the public to pay attention to biodiversity conservation and the construction of nature reserves.
