The largest existing primary forest in Europe, located in the foothills of the Ural Mountains in Russia, covers an area of 32,800 square kilometers, which is the Komi Primary Forest.
The komi primary forest with lush forests and beautiful mountains and rivers belongs to the subarctic forest, with beautiful natural scenery and a complete and balanced ecosystem, where many precious and rare species have settled. Spectacular waterfalls, lush islets and rushing rivers... It attracts more and more people to come for sightseeing trips.
In 1984, the Komi Primary Forest was included in the BIOSPHERE Conservation Programme by UNESCO.
In 1995, the Komi Primary Forest was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in accordance with natural heritage selection criteria N(II)(III). The countless natural heritage in the forest includes the geographical formation of mountain glaciers, which provide an example of geological evolution.
The Komi Primary Forest is the only place in Europe where Siberian pine trees grow, and the vegetation at the northeastern end of the forest is tundra vegetation, that is, moss, lichen and dwarf shrubland, and the short trees to the south are gradually replaced by dense taiga forests or coniferous forests. Peat moss, bilberry and wild yellowberries grow in the lower elevation wetlands of the western part of the forest, while the island is full of willow, european catalpa, mountain pear, black chestnut and cherry trees of the tiger ear grass family. The northern part of the forest is still an uncultivated virgin land, which has become a "paradise" for many endangered animals and plants.
The vast Primeval Forest of Comey is home to both European and typical Asian animals. The forest has recorded 204 species of birds such as European thunderbirds, black thunderbirds, spotted crows, three-toed woodpeckers, 43 species of mammals such as land bobcats, wolverines, elk and brown bears, and 16 species of fish such as salmon, river trout and whitefish.
Until the 18th century, the forest was sparsely visited, and it was not until the end of the 18th century that research began on the area, followed by nature reserves, research institutes and several workstations.
There is also a magical place near the komi primeval forest, that is, the Manppuna weathering column located in the northern Ural Mountains, they are 22 to 50 meters high, incomparably tall, known as the "Seven Giants of Russia", they are so magical, with their own magical colors.
The Comey Primeval Forest is mysterious and quiet & rugged and deep, which makes people dream. People are always full of yearning for it, and at the same time with some unknown fear, but reverence has a deep meaning. When you have experienced its beauty, you will understand that it is all worth it!
