According to the World Health Organization, cataracts are the world's first blinding eye disease, with 35% of blindness and 25% of moderate to severe visual impairments worldwide coming from cataracts that are not treated in time. The data show that the incidence of cataracts in people aged 60 to 89 in China is about 80%, while the incidence of cataracts in people over 90 years old is as high as more than 90%.

"Surgery is the only way to treat cataracts." Professor Zhou Hezheng, chief physician and doctoral supervisor of Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University, said that with the rapid entry of China into an aging society, cataract patients have increased sharply, but the number of cataract patients per million population in China is far lower than that of developed countries. Many difficult patients are unable to work because they cannot get timely treatment, and some patients even lose the ability to take care of themselves, dragging down the whole family.

"This time, Aier Ophthalmology has joined hands with the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese of Hubei Province, the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese of Wuhan City and the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese of Jiangxia District to provide assistance to more patients with difficult eye diseases." Han Zhong, director and vice president of Aier Eye Hospital Group and CE0 of Wuhan Aier Eye Hospital, said.

At the launching ceremony, Tong Saixiong, secretary of the party group and chairman of the Wuhan Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, announced that the "Overseas Chinese Love Bright Walk" officially entered Jiangxia District; the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese in Jiangxia District received 100 crystals, and the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University donated 100 surgical assistance places to the Jiangxia District Overseas Chinese Federation.

From now on, all patients from families with difficulties who meet the conditions can apply to the designated hospital of "Overseas Chinese Love and Bright Walk" - Aier Eye Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University if they have any needs, tel: 027-68893999.
