But their loyalty did not change the equal treatment of Yan Xishan, who knew that Taiyuan would be captured by the People's Liberation Army sooner or later, so he had been planning an escape plan.

In 1949, Yan Xishan sent a message to Acting "President" Li Zongren through acquaintances in Nanjing, hoping that he would recommend him to be the vice president of the Executive Yuan and give him an excuse to leave Taiyuan.
