After liberation, the Midas Temple complex was no longer used as a religious building, and its function changed, resulting in serious damage to the original building and environment. In September last year, the temple began its renovation work.

It took 8 months and the repair was completed. Mitaji Temple has been unveiled and is now an urban cultural park that integrates cultural heritage protection, historical continuity, and civic recuperation.

The entire Midas Temple Park, about 29,600 square meters, used to "squeeze" 372 households and 7 units, and after the families moved away, the place was spacious.

At present, the 7 ancient buildings of Midas Temple have been repaired, including the Mountain Gate, the Great Buddha Hall, the Nianfo Hall, the Tibetan Scripture Building, the Old Hall, the New Hall, and the Fayu Temple.

The staff of the West Lake District Construction Bureau said that there are three requirements during construction: the park should be open to the public; do not burn incense to worship the Buddha; do not destroy old buildings, keep those that can be retained, and do not add new buildings, and try to keep the old appearance as much as possible.

Therefore, Ruan Xiuhua, an "aboriginal" who was born in Midas Temple and has lived for 60 years, returned to Midas Temple yesterday and said that he still looks like the old way he lived before, but it is clean, bright and much better-looking.

The park has 7900 square meters of greenery, and the green space rate has reached 51.93%. In the corner of the park, on the east side of the cliff, a pond was dug up and planted with lotus flowers, bringing aura to the entire Midas Temple Park. The Midas Temple Road into the park has also been remodeled, and it is much easier to walk than before.

At present, these ancient buildings in Midas Temple are still empty. Next, we will further do a good job in custody maintenance and cultural exhibition. Beishan Street staff said that in the future, many cultural displays can be seen in Mida Temple, such as the history and culture of Mida Temple, the old customs of pine farms, the incense of people in Beishan Street, and occasional photography lectures and health knowledge lectures.

How did the famous cliff carvings come about?

The southernmost part of the temple is the famous cliff carving. Engraved in the fourth year of Qing Guangxu (1878-1881), he is more than 130 years old.

24 meters long, 5 meters high, 106 lines of stone carvings, 20 words per line, 15 centimeters square per word, a total of 1966 words, engraved is the "Buddha says Amitabha Sutra".

Why engrave this content?

During the Guangxu years, the senior monk Miaoran Traveled to Hangzhou and felt that he had a good relationship with Xiao huo mountain (now located at the northern end of the provincial government compound, later known as Midas Mountain), and he thought of carving the Amitabha Sutra on the rock. Shen Shandeng, a Tongxiang jinshi and calligrapher, accepted the invitation and wrote for 57 days in Deng Weishan, a plum blossom resort in Suzhou.

Zheng Yinfang, the designer of the Zhejiang Ancient Architecture Design and Research Institute and the Midas Temple project, checked a lot of historical materials, and it is said that before Shen Shandeng started writing, he first bathed in incense reverently, and after paying homage to the Buddha three times, he picked up the pen and wrote the first word.

Words are written on their knees, and for each word written, the Diamond Sutra is recited 108 times. So, 1966 words, exactly 57 days of writing.

After the writing is written, it is not an easy task to engrave on the rock.

To smooth the rock wall, cover the original writing with transparent copy paper, and outline the ink line. It is then engraved with a wooden hammer and the word "wool felt" is used. Engraving is also carried out in chanting.

During the creation, Master Miaoran died, and Master Daoyou Yufeng Gukun took over, which took three years and was finally completed.

After the stone carving was completed, everyone stood in awe, rejoiced and admired, and competed for almsgiving. Therefore, the Buddhist hall and the monk's house were added one by one, and the name of the temple was called "Mida Temple". Pilgrims come from all over the country and land at Matsuki Field, and their first stop is "Mida Temple".

For so many years, the whole cliff carving is a green wall, and the cliff wall is crawling with moss, oil stains, smoke, etc., and the words are blurred and cannot be seen clearly.

In this repair, the moss and stains on the surface were first erased little by little, and then the stone carvings were thoroughly cleaned up by desalination, reinforcement, surface protection, etc., and now I saw the brick red rock.

The "Buddha Says Amitabha Sutra" on the stone carving is clearly visible, and even the gold powder smeared in the big characters of that year is still faintly visible.

In order to better protect the stone carvings, this time also installed a "protective cover" for the stone carvings, which were built on top of the stone carvings, 28.6 meters long and 7 meters high, and protected the entire surface of the cliff stone carvings, which were restored according to the "Stone Scripture Pavilion" recorded in the historical materials.

In the main hall of Midas Temple, the Great Buddha Hall, you can also see three excavated worship stones, all 1.8 meters long and 1.2 meters wide, all of which are left in the Great Buddha Hall, and you can also go to see them if you are interested.
