Du Chunsheng, a retired cadre of the Nanyang Municipal Bureau of Justice: Practicing calligraphy in water for ten years has become a positive result

Learning 'Book Theory' after work

Du Chunsheng, who is now in his 60s, although he is thin and weak, his benchmark figure is more rigid and temperamental. It turned out that he was a demobilized military cadre and a second-class meritorious man. In 1992, he was transferred from the 38th Army to the Political Department and Discipline Inspection Commission of the Nanyang Municipal Bureau of Justice. With his incomparable loyalty to the party and his love for the judicial cause, he was diligent and pragmatic in his work, had the courage to innovate, and made positive contributions to the construction of the team of the Judicial Bureau, the construction of spiritual civilization, and the construction of party style and clean government. Over the years, he has been awarded "Excellent Communist Party Member" by the Nanyang Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, the first "Top Ten Political Work Cadres" of the municipal law system, and the "Advanced Individual in Ideological and Political Work" of the judicial administrative system of Henan Province. Du Chunsheng has loved the art of calligraphy since he was a child, and due to his busy work during his tenure, he had no time to practice calligraphy, and it was not until 2012, when he was about to retire, that he officially put the hobby of learning calligraphy on his life agenda. People often say: "Painting takes ten years to become a painter, thirty years to become a calligrapher", which shows the difficulty of learning calligraphy. But he did not believe in this set, he was close to reality, painfully determined, challenged himself, determined to create an effective calligraphy path for middle-aged and elderly calligraphy enthusiasts. He focused on choosing the 'book' as a breakthrough, and practiced with a high starting point and high standards. The focus is on copying the world's first line of Wang Xizhi's "Orchid Pavilion Order" and "Huairen Ji Wang Xi's Holy Order". He not only studied book knowledge with his heart, but also used theory to guide practice. Moreover, he was not ashamed to ask, and humbly asked the calligraphers and painters around him for advice. In 2012, he visited Yang Daohong, president of the Nanyang Railway Calligraphy and Painting Institute, a famous local calligrapher and painter, Wang Xiangkuan, who won the title of "People's Artist" of the Ministry of Culture, and Ma Shaotang, the leader of the Nanyang Calligraphers Association, and other teachers, and received specific demonstrations and comments, from which he learned a lot of valuable experience. In order to further enhance the art of calligraphy, in recent years, he has also managed to visit Ouyang Zhongshi and other calligraphers, and has benefited greatly from their painting dragon dot eye style and guidance. It plays a positive role in the smooth progress of the study book.

Dipped in water and practiced bitterly for ten years

Since 2012, after his retirement, Du Chunsheng has been selected as the administrative director of Henan Meixi Law Firm and the secretary general of the Nanyang Criminal Law Research Association. Under the premise of doing a good job, he used the holidays and the minutes and seconds after tea and dinner to practice the basic skills of calligraphy. Writing with a brush dipped in water on a table and on black rice paper was the basic way he practiced calligraphy. He said that this humble indigenous method saves time and trouble, and also saves the cost of paper and ink. Reducing waste and waste ink and waste paper pollution, he used the practice method of combining stickers with comprehension, combining stickers with creation, and combining stickers with competitions, thus playing a multiplier effect with half the effort. Du Chunsheng suffered an injury to his waist while the troops were carrying out earthquake relief tasks, and it was inconvenient for him to sit and write, so he stood and practiced hanging wrists. No matter how harsh the winter or heat, no matter what great difficulties he encountered, he insisted on studying, never relaxed, never stopped, never gave up. Heaven rewards hard work, and kung fu pays off. After hard practice, Du Chunsheng's calligraphy skills were rapidly improved. In 2016, he was admitted as a member of the Henan Calligraphers Association. Since 2014, he has participated in more than 70 national (unofficial) calligraphy and painting competitions, of which he has won more than 60 gold medals (first prizes), and won more than ten titles such as "Red Artist of the New Era", "Outstanding Meritorious Calligrapher and Painter of China", "Top 100 Calligraphers and Painters in China", "Top Ten Artists in China" and so on. His works have been included in large books such as "Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting Masters" and "Ink Masters". In recent years, Du Chunsheng has been rated as a national first-class calligrapher by the Ministry of Culture, and has been hired as the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, a visiting professor of the Confucius Museum, and the vice chairman of the State Guest Calligraphy and Painting Network.

He said that as an excellent Communist Party member for many years, the purpose of learning calligraphy is not to make money, but to serve the people and benefit the people. Especially in the current chaotic cultural market and the prevalence of pursuing fame and profit, he never seeks fame and fortune, and is determined to embody the principle of party spirit in the social value of works serving the people and in enhancing the self-confidence of national culture. At present, the runge price of his calligraphy works is more than 10,000 yuan per square foot, but for the sake of public welfare, the works are only charged a cost fee, or given away for free.
