Wu Xiaodong, former vice mayor of Dongtai City, pronounced a second-instance judgment in the bribery case and sentenced him to five years' imprisonment and a fine of 300,000 yuan

On November 6, the Jiangsu Provincial Higher People's Court entrusted the Intermediate People's Court of Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, with a second-instance judgment on the bribery case of Wu Xiaodong, former vice mayor of Dongtai City, sentencing the appellant Wu Xiaodong to five years' imprisonment and a fine of RMB 300,000 for accepting bribes; the proceeds of crime were recovered and handed over to the state treasury.

From 2011 to 2016, the Jiangsu Provincial High People's Court found that the appellant, Wu Xiaodong, served as mayor and party secretary of the People's Government of Fu'an Town, Dongtai City, deputy director of the Management Committee of the Dongtai Coastal Wetland Tourism and Resort Economic Zone, secretary of the Party Committee of Weigang Town, director of the Management Committee, and secretary of the Party Working Committee of Jianggang Town, during his tenure of convenience in seeking benefits for Dongtai Dongyuan Municipal Engineering Co., Ltd., Zhou Jun and other units or individuals, and successively accepted cash and shopping cards equivalent to RMB 989,000 from the above-mentioned units and individuals.

The Jiangsu Provincial High People's Court held that the appellant Wu Xiaodong, as a state functionary, took advantage of his position to illegally accept other people's property equivalent to 989,000 yuan to seek benefits for others, and his conduct constituted the crime of accepting bribes. The above-mentioned judgments are made in accordance with law on the basis of the facts and circumstances of their crimes.
