Former Newcastle United right-back Ryan Taylor urged Newcastle to appoint Gerrard as manager

Former Newcastle United right-back Ryan Taylor urged his former club to appoint Rangers head coach Steven Gerrard as head coach.

The Saudi-led acquisition of the Magpies, which was completed earlier this month, immediately sparked rumors about the future of then-head coach Steve Bruce.

Gerrard and his former England team-mate and former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard have been linked.

Graeme Jones is currently temporarily head coaching the Jody Mans, while club management is trying to find the most suitable candidate for the vacant manager.

According to Taylor, Gerald is the right person for the role.

"I'd like to see someone like Gerrard in charge of Newcastle. He told Sky Sports: "There's a lot of passion there, coming from the city, he'll know what the passion is."

"The way he plays is the right one, he knows who the good players are and I think his performance at Rangers is incredible.

'If he's linked to the club and the club is interested in it, then it's clear that it's a huge step forward for him because they've already planned for the future.'

The Liverpool legend has excelled at Ibrox since becoming manager in 2018.

He has hosted 188 matches so far and led Geers to his 55th Scottish league title, setting a league unbeaten record.

Linked to Newcastle's work is former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese head coach is "ready" to accept the role and is the "front runner" of St. James' Park.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: "They had talks with new coach Paul Fonseca last week and they are still continuing to negotiate with Fonseca and are optimistic about this decision because Paul Fonseca is ready to accept Newcastle's offer."

"But it's up to Newcastle. They have everything arranged with Fonseca now, but they need to decide whether to go with him or do something different, talk to other coaches and consider other opportunities. ”
