Yangzi Evening News Network December 25 (correspondent Gao Xiaoqing reporter Xue Ling) Nanjing Customs affiliated to Nantong Customs intercepted a variety of foreign pests from a Panamanian ship entering the country, after the Nantong Customs Animal and Plant Quarantine Laboratory identified and sent to the Nanjing Customs Animal and Plant and Food Testing Center for review, confirming that one of them is a concave cone long beetle (Platypus caviceps). Confirmed by the Chinese Academy of Inspection and Technology, it was intercepted for the first time at a port in China.

Concave cone beetle is distributed in New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and other regions, the main parasitic broad-leaved beech and other tree species, can endanger the entire xylem, its insect path can be drilled through the bark to the xylem, thereby reducing the use value of wood. The insect can be transmitted over long distances with the host, wood packaging, etc., and once introduced and colonized, it will have a serious impact on China's forest industry and ecological security.
Also intercepted in the same batch were a variety of quarantine pests such as rubber beetles, medium-pair long beetles, and excedens species of long beetles. At present, Nantong Customs has implemented relevant treatment and supervision of the inbound ship in accordance with regulations.
