In places where there are more spiny caterpillars, the dead spiny hairs are still toxic for a certain period of time and will drift with the wind to people, so people who have not been exposed to spiny caterpillars will also suddenly appear spiny caterpillar dermatitis.
Caterpillar dermatitis is generally found on the face and neck. Lesions often present as edematous erythema, wheals, or large patches of edema, with blisters or bullae interspersed, multiple singles, or as a small patch. Intense pain, often accompanied by itching in the later stages.
What if you get stabbed by a caterpillar?
