Tan Xinpei's "Tan School" art has played a role in the innovation and development of Peking Opera. He absorbed the performance characteristics of flower face and green clothes, and integrated the tunes in the zizi and the big drum, so that the singing, reading and doing skills of the old students of Peking Opera were more abundant. Especially in terms of singing, Tan Xinpei changed the original straight tone, only relying on the voice and strength of the rough singing method, innovatively added a lot of round and soft, beautiful and changeable new cavity, shaping the character more delicate.

Due to practicing martial arts from an early age, Tan Xinpei's old students are also both literate and martial, and have a wide path of drama. For example, tan pai's housekeeper drama "Dingjun Mountain", in which the large sections of "Allegro" and "Erliu" highlight the superb singing skills; and the opening and knife flowers of "Chopping Yuan" show his solid martial arts and relying on skills.
Tan school art is the oldest school of Peking Opera with the most descendants and the greatest influence, and has had a wide influence and help on the Yu school founded by Yu Shuyan and the Ma school founded by Ma Lianliang, including Wusheng Yang Xiaolou, Danxing Mei Lanfang and Wang Yaoqing.
