On the evening of October 23, the opening ceremony of the 2021 China Taizhou Mei Lanfang Art Festival and the award ceremony of the first Taizhou "Mei Lanfang Art Award" were held at the Taizhou Grand Theatre. Shang Changrong, Feng Yuping, Yu Kuizhi, Li Shengsu and other opera masters gathered in Taizhou to present an artistic feast of opera art exchanges for the audience.

"Taizhou Prefecture built the Southern Tang Dynasty, Wenchang Northern Song Dynasty, with profound cultural heritage, famous and sages, and Mei Lanfang, the master of Peking Opera art, is one of the outstanding representatives. This year marks the 60th anniversary of Mr. Mei's death, and we pay tribute to the master in the name of art!" Zhu Lifan, secretary of the Taizhou Municipal Party Committee, said.
According to Zhu Lifan, as the hometown of Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang, Taizhou inherits the spirit of the master, builds a famous historical and cultural city, promotes the combination of excellent cultural genes and modern civilization, and cultural construction continues to step up to a new level. Since its inception in 2008, mei lanfang arts festival has become one of the most influential art events in the Chinese theater industry and one of the most iconic city business cards in Taizhou.

At the opening ceremony, the award ceremony of the first Taizhou "Mei Lanfang Art Award" was held. Since the beginning of this year, Taizhou has held the first "Hundred Plums Competition" opera festival, and at the same time set up the Taizhou "Mei Lanfang Art Award". Guo Wei and Shi Xiaming were awarded the "Performing Arts Gold Star", Chen Xiang, Tang Da and Yan Hongyu were awarded the "Performing Arts Silver Stars", and Ji Chunyan, Chen Qunyao, Yang Cheng, Zhang Yijin and Zhou Meiling were awarded the "Performing Arts Rising Stars".
According to the organizers, the Taizhou "Mei Lanfang Art Award" has been selected by experts, on the one hand, hoping to select the leading figures in the opera industry who are both virtuous and artistic, inheriting the master's art and personality charm; on the other hand, by launching young outstanding opera talents, we will strive to create a "plum blossom award" weather vane.
Opera Special Performance: Tin Opera "Double Push Mill"
After the opening ceremony, Taizhou also held a special opera performance evening. The performance was hosted by the famous host Bai Yansheng, the first "Plum Blossom Award" winner Shang Changrong, the national Peking Theatre veteran Yu Kuizhi, Meipai Da Qingyi Li Shengsu, Peking Opera popular Wenwu old student Fu Xiru and other famous teachers performed together to pay tribute to Master Mei Lanfang.
It is understood that during the Meiyi Festival, Taizhou City will also hold the "Hundred Plums Competition" boutique repertoire (Peking Opera part) exhibition, the first "Mei Lanfang Cup" National Peking Opera Fan Contest, the series of activities to pay tribute to the master, etc., to create a Mei Lanfang cultural brand, inherit the opera culture, innovate the art of opera, and build Taizhou into a "Meilang Hometown • Opera Holy Land" with Wenxing Brigade and Travel.
