Donnie Wahlberg left a $2,020 (S$2739) tip on the restaurant's $35.27 bill.
The 51-year-old actor, a regular at a branch in Marshland, Plymouth, Massachusetts, always asked waitress Denise Andrews to serve him.
Although Dennis knew that her famous customer had always been generous in tipping, she was stunned by the gift he had left for her last Saturday (November 7).
Restaurateur Marty Finch told People magazine: "Downey has been here before and he always comes looking for Dennis.
He ordered his usual order: the steak tip with some grilled asparagus and poached eggs. She always knew what he wanted.
"When he left, he just said, 'Dennis, you've got it.'" Payment has been negotiated. "She always said he was good at tipping, but when she saw so much tipping, she could say the least with her mouth wide open."
The restaurant also shared a photo of Downey's receipt on Instagram, including a handwritten tip and a signature for the #2020tip challenge, as a token of appreciation.
They captioned: "Very special thanks to our friend @donniewahlberg! When asked about this, he only said 'Who is next?!'"
Marty acknowledged that the generous gesture had "uplifted" everyone in the restaurant, and he also praised Dennis for quickly sharing the money with colleagues.
He said: "Dennis was very generous. She gave the money to the other waiters and people in the kitchen, and she donated it too.
"She's preparing a turkey dinner for two families during the festival, so she's generous herself. Downey said she was going to pass it on and let that positive stuff go on, so she's trying to do it too. ”
In January, the Blues actor and his wife, Jenny McCarthy, left the same tip for waiters at an IHOP restaurant in St. Charles, Illinois.
