After completing his latest work, "The Wind Rises" in 2013, animation master Hayao Miyazaki announced to the media that he would no longer direct animated feature films, and said that "the era of animation that belongs to me has passed." Although fans were disappointed to hear this news, there was precedent for the old man to announce his retirement and comeback, and sure enough, in October of the same year, Studio Ghibli confirmed that Hayao Miyazaki was working on a CG animated short film, which was this "Caterpillar Polo".
Miyazaki once taught the younger generation of animation production that "it is best not to touch the computer", because he insisted on hand-drawing, afraid that the computer would turn the animation into a work on the assembly line, losing his soul. But Miyazaki himself can't ignore the unique superiority of CG movement, and "Caterpillar Polo" is the first attempt.
"Caterpillar Polo" tells the story of the newborn Caterpillar Polo exploring the external world, although it is only 14 minutes and 20 seconds, but it took five years to polish, and it is Miyazaki's first attempt at CG technology, I believe it will not live up to everyone's expectations. Now it has been decided that this short animation will be screened at the Ghibli Museum of Mitaka No Mori in Tokyo from March 21! It is also the 10th animation exhibited in the "Saturn Constellation" screening room of the Ghibli Museum.
