Li Qiankuan, a famous director, a national first-class director and honorary chairman of the China Filmmakers Association, died at the age of 80 in Cixi, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, at 8:29 a.m. on August 12. Born on January 4, 1941 in Dalian, Liaoning Province, Li Qiankuan graduated from Dalian No. 2 Middle School in 1959 and was admitted to the Beijing Film Academy.
In 1964, after graduating from the Fine Arts Department of the Beijing Film Academy, Li Qiankuan was assigned to the Changchun Film Studio and created many classic main theme films throughout his life. His representative works include "General Sabre", "Founding Ceremony", "Chongqing Negotiations", "After the Decisive Battle", "July 7 Incident" and so on.
In 1989, the film "Founding Ceremony" co-directed by Li Qiankuan and Xiao Guiyun won the Best Feature Film Award at the 10th Golden Rooster Awards of Chinese Cinema and the Best Feature Film Award at the 13th Hundred Flowers Awards for Popular Films. "Chongqing Negotiations" won the "Huabiao Cup" Government Excellent Film Award and the 17th Hundred Flowers Award for Excellent Film.
