Mick has been working in the mining and construction industries in Australia and has extensive business contacts with Chinese companies investing in Australia. Today, Mick serves as senior vice president of China at a foreign company. The company's business is mainly involved in mineral processing, design, supply, construction, commissioning and operation, as well as underground mining, wind power plants and port construction, and operates in Africa, Australia, North America and South America. Coupled with the early stage of the "epidemic", many people did not know much about the new crown pneumonia virus, and everything made them feel a little caught off guard, and it was inevitable that they would be a little nervous.
Mick was the first person in the family to work and live in China, and his parents supported his choice, but Mick moved his family to distant Dalian, which for both Mick's parents meant taking their lovely granddaughters away from the elderly. Coupled with the fact that they encountered the epidemic in China, they were worried and uneasy, and Mick was a bit "stressed". But what touched their family was that the Dalian municipal government paid special attention to foreigners, and during the epidemic, they received care and attention from all aspects of the street, the community and friends. In particular, the Foreign Affairs Office of the Municipal Government gave them selfless help, guided them to cope with the epidemic, and gave them care and care in their lives. Mick said that without the foreign office, I really don't know how to get through those difficult days.
In the two years in Dalian, the Mick family, together with Dalian City, has experienced three epidemics. It was this special experience that made them feel the warmth of Dalian City, and also gave Mick a new understanding of the city. When he goes to get a haircut, a doctor in the hospital, etc., he will be well cared for, and even the aunt who sells pancake fruit at the roadside stall will greet him from afar, making him feel very kind.
Not long after coming to Dalian, one morning, the family was eating, and there were snowflakes floating outside the window, and for a family from the tropical region, seeing snow in Dalian for the first time was both surprising and exciting. Especially in the winter of 2020, when it snows a lot, they feel extra happy, children often play in the snow, take a lot of photos in the snow, send them to the circle of friends, pass it on to relatives in Australia, and share their happiness. Mick said that these experiences in Dalian will become the most precious memories in children's lives.

During his two years in Dalian, Mick came into contact with many Chinese families, and he believes that Chinese pay more attention to family, respect the elderly, and value family affection more. In the West, children generally leave home as adults to live independently. In China, the sense of attachment, closeness and cohesion of the family is stronger, parents will help the children take care of the next generation, and then when they are old, the children will go back to take care of them, this virtue is passed down from generation to generation, he appreciates and likes the Chinese way of getting along with the family.
Mick's career in Dalian is going well, but he admits that he will not be in Dalian for a long time because his parents and relatives are still in Mackay. Mick said that the elderly on both sides are getting older, the elderly want to have more time with the children, do not want to miss the time when the children are growing up, and the Micks do not want to miss the time with their parents, after all, they are getting older. Mick said he is now working hard to go back when everything is stable and then he can run on both sides of Australia and China so he will have more time to spend with his family.

Dalian is struggling to integrate with overseas

Mick doesn't think so, he said, we can go to Shanghai to travel, but to do business or choose a place that is more suitable for themselves, choose a place with a better basis for cooperation with themselves. In Mick's view, although Dalian is not a big city, but has its own characteristics, Dalian is a romantic and open city, located in the most important region of Asia, the geographical advantage is obvious, there are direct shipping to South Korea, Japan, Russia, Singapore and other countries and regions, and there are ports that are convenient for international trade, it is these characteristics that make Dalian different from other cities. Dalian's seafood, hot pot, barbecue and other delicacies are very tasty. Because of the relationship between work and business, Mick often deals with government departments, and the most contacted is the foreign affairs office.
