According to the latest data from China Customs, 43,000 tons of Warm Water Shrimp Products arrived in Hong Kong in May, down 19% year-on-year. Imports were $250 million, down 20% year-on-year, and the average unit price of imports rose by 0.29$/kg to 5.82$compared to April.
In the first five months of 2021, China's imports of warm water shrimp products arrived in Hong Kong totaling 221,100 tons, down 16% year-on-year. Ecuadorian white shrimp product arrivals in China's largest shrimp supplier were 24,000 tonnes in May, 0.2 million tonnes lower than 26,000 tonnes in April and down 17% year-on-year.
Imports of warm shrimp products from India to Hong Kong fell 21% year-on-year to 11,600 tonnes year-on-year. Vietnamese warm water shrimp arrived at 1600 tons and Thailand arrived at 1700 tons, down 51% and 19% year-on-year.
The main reason for the decline in imports in May was due to the rapid rise in ecuadorian prices. From the data, the average price of shrimp products imported by China from Ecuador in May was 5.21 US dollars / kg, higher than the average of 4.96 US dollars / kg in April. India is the main supplier of shrimp to China, with the average price of Indian shrimp products arriving in China in May at 6.19$/kg.
Among the shrimp products arriving in China, the quantity and average price of shrimp products from Venezuela and Peru were low, with 73 tons arriving in Venezuela and 1113 tons arriving in Peru; the average price was 4.35$/kg and 5.38$/kg, respectively. The average price of shrimp products in Thailand is the highest at 9.25$/kg, and in Vietnam at 7.71$/kg. Among them, Thailand is mainly cooked shrimp products, while Vietnamese black tiger shrimp products are mostly.
