In an alley next to Siming South Road, there is an inconspicuous old building, if it were not for the stone stele embedded in the wall at the entrance of the alley, it is difficult for people to imagine that this place was once a prison. On May 25, 91 years ago, the CCP underground organization led a prison break struggle, which shocked people at home and abroad!
In just 10 minutes and zero casualties, more than 40 comrades were successfully rescued from the prison! The rescued revolutionary comrades were successively transferred to the revolutionary base areas in western Fujian, like a trickle of water flowing into the revolutionary torrent, and plunged into the great cause of resisting Japan and saving the country and overthrowing the reactionary rule of the Kuomintang. The Struggle to Break The Prison in Xiamen on May 25 has thus left an inspiring and glorious page in the history of the Communist Party of China.
This red memory was later used as the background of the story by Gao Yunlan, a contemporary writer from Xiamen, who wrote a long novel "Spring and Autumn in a Small Town", and remade it into a film and television work of the same name, which has been recited to this day.
91 years later, Xiamen has already undergone earth-shaking changes, and the thrilling smoke of gunfire has also gone. However, against the background of the bustling bustle of the city, this history is even more precious and more worthy of being remembered by people today. It is worth mentioning that with the efforts of all sectors of society, over the years, the former site of the Xiamen prison break struggle at No. 451 Siming South Road has not been forgotten. The "May Day" holiday that just passed, here also ushered in a group of citizens and tourists, they are here to reminisce about the red history, remember the spirit of the predecessors. Lin Yuanping, director of the Xiamen Municipal Museum, said that he will continue to repair and upgrade the old site of the prison break struggle to protect the common red memory of Xiamen people.
