The International Olympic Committee announced on the 29th that former president Jacques Logue died at the age of 79.

Logue served as the eighth President of the IOC from 2001 to 2013 and later as Honorary President. He was a former orthopedic surgeon with a degree in sports medicine. He also competed in three Olympic regattas in 1968, 1972 and 1976.

At the end of his career, Logue became President of Belgium and the European Olympic Committee, and was elected President of the International Olympic Committee in 2001. After stepping down as President of the International Olympic Committee, he also served as the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Youth, Refugees and Sport.
