According to the Daily Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have completed their first signing of the summer, and they have reached a deal with Cologne's Austrian centre-back Wimmel.
The 22-year-old centre-back made his last appearance for Cologne in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg, confirming to the media that he would join Tottenham and saying goodbye to the team. He is understood to have paid €6 million (£4.3 million) for a transfer fee and will sign a four-year contract with Tottenham.
Wimer moved to Cologne from Linz, Austria, in 2012, when Cologne paid him only 250,000 euros. This season he has had a breakthrough performance in the Bundesliga, and his height of 1.87 meters also allows him to have enough physical conditions to compete with Premier League players.
