Three days later, much of the evidence pointed to a boy they knew together, Zhao Mouchen.
This Zhao Mouchen is the president of the student union of a certain college of Sun Yat-sen University. The victims of the rumors came from 5 different departments and 3 grades of Sun Yat-sen University, some of whom had only one side of his relationship, and some of whom had rejected his pursuit.
Counting what Zhao Mouchen did was outrageous.
Since February this year, Zhao has stolen the girls' avatars and forged their nude photos and false "dating gun" chat records through p-pictures and other means.
With hundreds of forged photos and thousands of chats, he portrayed Sun Yat-sen University as a promiscuous scene rife with erotic trade. The girls were named and pheasants, with prices of 5k a night, and many faculties became chicken nests and obscene nests.
These slanderous rumors were taken as wonderful works by Zhao Mouchen and could not wait to share them with his girlfriends, friends and many boys in the academy.

Zhao Mouchen simply lay down and claimed to be "dizzy" on the ground.

Even if they were pulled out, they only apologized with a hippie smile, just like the rumor-mongers at Sun Sun Yat-sen University, who spent half a year falsifying the records and nude photos, apologized only for "one and a half minutes", and then hid in the toilet.
Why are they so unscrupulous?
Because the cost of rumor-mongering is too low.
The two people who spread rumors that Wu Yan cheated on the courier were only detained for 9 days. Zhao Mouchen, who spent half a year carefully slandering 17 classmates and creating the image of multiple departments of Sun Yat-sen University into "obscene nests", was only administratively detained for 3 days.
But in fact, our law can give more support in rumor-mongering and defaming cases.
In October last year, Wu Yan filed a criminal private prosecution with the local court for defamation, and her attitude was very firm: I do not apologize, and I do not want any compensation, but "I will pursue their criminal responsibility to the end and will never compromise."
It is not easy to seek assistance from the law after being rumored by the Internet. At the level of actual implementation, victims often face difficulties in presenting evidence, difficulties in identifying network forwarding responsibilities, and difficulties in determining losses, which enable many rumor-mongers hiding in the shadows to "retreat completely".
But the follow-up development of Wu Yan's case makes people see hope.
After studying, the procuratorial organs in Hangzhou believed that Wu Yan's case had reached the level of "seriously endangering social order", so in accordance with the provisions of the criminal law, the procuratorial organs initiated a public prosecution.
In the end, the rumor-mongers in Wu Yan's case, Lang X and He X, were sentenced to one year in prison for defamation.
The transformation of defamation cases from private prosecution to public prosecution not only reduces the cost of protecting the rights of victims, but also means increasing the criminal costs of rumor-mongers.
This is a historic case that shows that from now on in defamation cases, the judiciary can hold up an umbrella for the innocent.
But there is no doubt that judicial support alone is not enough. Looking back, the most worthy of reflection is why rumors can spread in our society like cancer cells.
The same executioners, in addition to the rumor-mongers, are also those who are keen to appreciate and spread rumors. As the victims of this incident at Sun Yat-sen University complained in their confessionals—
They are also immersed in sin and use our pain as entertainment feed!
There are also indifferent spectators who say "no wind and no waves" and "flies do not sting seamless eggs", who cruelly insult the appearance and figure of the victim and carry out secondary injuries.
These 17 innocent victims, smeared, eroded and trampled by malicious rumors, did their best to issue unfair accusations.
But what they need most is not compassion, but real help.
In addition to hoping that the law will help restore their reputations, assess and make up for the losses, to rescue their "social death" requires the attention and solidarity of the whole society, and this is why we wrote this article .
