At present, it has been distributed to most provinces (regions) in the country, especially in the northern provinces. Chinese Merino sheep were jointly bred in Xinjiang from 1972 to 1985 in the Gongnais Sheep Farm, the ZiNiquan Breeding Farm, the Inner Mongolia Gadasu Breeding Farm and the Jilin Chagan Flower Breeding Farm. It is a high-level new breed of fine wool sheep in China.

The Chinese Merino sheep has a strong physique, a rectangular body shape, a dense and long head hair, born to the eyeliner, and a hat-like shape. The armor is wide and flat, the chest is deep and wide, the back and waist are long and straight, wide and flat, and the back of the body is plump. The limbs are strong and the limbs are upright. Rams have spiral horns, a few hornless, and ewes have no horns. Rams have 1 to 2 transverse folds or developed longitudinal folds and skirt folds at the neck, and ewes have developed longitudinal folds. Regardless of the loose skin of the male sheep's trunk, there are no obvious wrinkles.
