27 July –-&D- With the partnership between Long-term Mercedes partner HWA and the parent company of Blancpain GT's R-Motorsport team, plans for Aston Martin to form a team to enter the DTM German Touring Car Masters are a step further.
Last week, foreign media reported that the R-Motorsport team was evaluating Aston Martin's participation in DTM from the 2020 season, which was supported by Red Bull and the car was built by the HWA team. The HWA team had exactly a gap after Mercedes withdrew from DTM at the end of the season.
Now R-Motorsport's parent company, AF Racing, has formed a new business with HWA in a peer-to-peer capacity. However, R-Motorsport's team statement did not mention future DTM projects.
Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, Maxime Martin and Nicki Thiim are all target drivers for the team, while HWA will also retain some of Mercedes' DTM drivers.
Audi and BMW will continue to participate in DTM in 2019, provided a third manufacturer will join later.
