Tianjin invested 5.2 billion yuan to build Yangliuqing Grand Canal National Cultural Park

Tianjin, 15 Apr (China News Service) -- On 15 April, this reporter learned from a press conference held by the Information Office of the Tianjin Municipal People's Government on "Building the Yangliuqing Grand Canal National Cultural Park" that the plan for the construction of the Yangliuqing Grand Canal National Cultural Park was deliberated and approved by a special meeting of the Tianjin Municipal CPC Committee and the Tianjin Municipal Government on 1 April. Tianjin will make every effort to promote the cultural protection, inheritance and utilization of the Grand Canal.

Yangliuqing Grand Canal National Cultural Park is located in the thousand-year-old town of Yangliuqing, planning to cover an area of more than 2,800 acres, divided into three sections, including historical towns, Yuanbao Island, and cultural towns, with a total investment of 5.2 billion yuan.

Bai Fengxiang, deputy secretary of the Tianjin Xiqing District Party Committee and mayor of the district, introduced that the project draws on the model of Xiong'an New District, hires international and domestic top teams to design; in the process of planning and improvement, it is placed in the pattern of basing on the national strategy and serving the development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei to plan; do not engage in political achievement projects, do not engage in real estate development, do not engage in excessive commercialization, and make every effort to create a carrier of cultural inheritance, a resort for cultural buildings, a platform for cultural exchanges, a place for cultural consumption, and a home for citizens to live happily.

Bai Fengxiang said that the Yangliuqing Grand Canal National Cultural Park has determined that the focus of cultural values is the Caoyun culture, the New Year painting culture and the catch-up camp culture, and integrates the cultural genes into the tangible buildings. For example, the planned and designed Chinese New Year Painting Museum and Chongwen Academy are all reflections of Yang Liuqing's history and culture.

At the same time, insist on prioritizing protection. Excavation and protection of more than 800 ancient tombs found in the process of archaeological survey, as archaeological evidence for the study of the ancient Grand Canal. Through the study of historical classics, comb the formation process of Yangliuqing Ancient Town, determine the river range, ferry location, historical street pattern, and constantly restore the historical spatial pattern of the ancient town. In accordance with the principle of "leaving the ancient, inheriting the ancient, promoting the ancient, and using the ancient", the ancient architectural form of the Ming and Qing dynasties is adopted to fully display the historical style of the ancient town.

Xu Hengqiu, deputy director of the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and director of the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics, said that the bureau attaches great importance to the archaeological work of the yangliuqing Grand Canal National Cultural Park construction project in Xiqing District. From March to June 2020, the Municipal Cultural Heritage Protection Center organized the archaeological investigation of the two projects of Yangliuqing National Cultural Park and Cultural Town, and found a total of 845 ancient tombs from the Song Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties; from September to November, archaeological excavations were carried out on the remains in the project area of Yangliuqing National Cultural Park, a total of 119 tombs were cleaned up, and more than 360 cultural relics of the Ming and Qing Dynasties such as porcelain pots, headdresses, pottery bowls, town tomb bricks and tiles, coins and other cultural relics of the Ming and Qing dynasties were excavated.

"The excavations are mainly ceramics, and the kilns in the north and south are both available, and the excavation of these objects strongly proves the important position of Tianjin in history as a hub of freight trade between the north and the south, and the resulting cultural exchange and integration." Xu Hengqiu said that these important archaeological discoveries are of great significance to enriching and deepening the cultural connotation of Yangliuqing Grand Canal National Cultural Park. (End)
