A Discussion of Existence and Death : The Boatman's Diary

author:Smile with brother

Whatever you believe, you will die, but if you don't believe anything, then for the living, you are dead.

This is a very classic sentence in the book. I don't know how to introduce this book, because I don't know how to explain the true meaning of this book as well as I understand? Many times, reading this book I feel is a challenge to me, and some of the words in it are so incomprehensible that I have to read it several times to know the most superficial connotations. Then I will expound my understanding of this book in the way I can express it.

A Discussion of Existence and Death : The Boatman's Diary

The author of The Boatman's Diary is a Hungarian, Kyrtes Imlay. In this book, the author uses a unique, obscure and beautiful literary means to "suicidal speculation" about the basic philosophical proposition of mankind: for me, the most appropriate suicide, it seems, is life. It mainly reveals the depravity and decay of human terror, and praises the persistent struggle of a fragile and vulnerable individual against the barbaric guarantees in the course of history.

In human life, there will eventually be a moment when we suddenly realize ourselves, suddenly release our own energy, and from this moment on, we can rely on ourselves, and it is at this moment that we are born. Everyone has a sprout of genius in their body, but not everyone can live a life of their own. A true genius is a genius of existence. The incisive and simple discussion of the relationship between "existence and death" is also the best interpretation of our existence as individual human beings, isn't it?

The structure of the book's essays is elaborated in three parts: one, sailing to the vast sea, setting sail, two, wandering, between the reef and the shoal, and three, letting go (the ship), putting away (the oar), and happiness. After beginning to think hard about existence and death in his heart and life, the author finally achieved happiness in his heart, although he was still constantly exploring new things. After reading the book, it is not difficult to find that the book also quotes a lot of famous quotes, or words that the author thinks are very interesting, but he did not completely accept the order, but screened, put the sentence in a specific environment, and gave the sentence a new and new meaning.

The text in the book may seem messy, but as long as we understand the deep meaning, we will understand that he uses logic and discussion to reveal the author's inner thoughts at that time step by step, rather than having a close plot connection like a detective novel.

Pessimism about the world is the biggest feature of the book, "for me, the most appropriate suicide - it seems - is life", he pessimistic view of life, life as a means of suicide, more than modern cynics hate the world. So if the world doesn't understand us, why should we bother to understand the world? If you can't understand it, then you will take everything in the world as ordered.

At the end of the book, the old man asks us with a smile on the beach, who is wandering confusedly:

If God dies, who will have the last laugh?

How will we answer the old man at this moment? How are we going to answer the old man? I've been thinking...
