The "Twentieth Century Foreign Literature Series" is launched by Shanghai Translation and Foreign Literature Publishing House, which can be described as the Shaolin Wudang of the translation and publishing industry, and Twin Peaks has joined forces to ensure the authority and high quality of this set of books. Translators include mostly famous artists from all languages, and many of the translations are still the best.
By the way: I don't think much of the various "new translations of famous works" in the current book market, and I feel that the translation is like a lover - or old, I think this is mainly because in the past, the threshold for publishing translated works was relatively high, and the publishers and translators were very professional, ensuring the high quality of the translations. Now the publication is mainly to make money, naturally willing to reduce costs, often find a few college students, graduate students to translate, and even some large companies publish books are also like this, the result is that the surface is bright but difficult to read things flood the market. In this case, these translations of the last century are even more precious.
The binding design of the series of books is also very distinctive, the covers are all prints, which looks simple and generous. Unfortunately, the subsequent re-edition did not continue this style, although it is not ugly, but in the end it is "invisible to everyone".
According to the series of books, this set of books to produce 200 kinds, but how many kinds of finally out, whether it is completed as planned is unknown, after all, this set of books is too many types, it is difficult for individuals to collect all.
The first translation of "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is probably one of the "pirated copies" that made Márquez shine and vow not to give Chinese copyright (I also read another translation by beijing October Publishing House). The foreign writers who were "pirated" in those years could get the compensation they deserved.
Faulkner's "Hustle and Turmoil", this book I bought when I was 18 years old, and it was the first time I read a stream of consciousness novel, and I actually read it, probably thanks to the exuberant curiosity of young people, and since then I have tried stream of consciousness novels many times, except for "Flemish Highway", which I like, and I have not finished reading.

This "The Land of Man" was republished after 2000, the first edition was called "Air Force Pilot", and I also had it (in some difficult way to get it), and then Lent it to a friend, and I can't get it back. The same thing happened again on The Naked and the Dead, and now I only have the next book of this book.
For me, this series of books also has unsatisfactory features: there are many books, it is inevitable that the fish and dragons are mixed, and some works are of low quality (I have eliminated several books, such as "Bare-Handed Fighting Wolves"); since the "classic works" are the goal, the selection of topics is relatively conservative, most of them are works in the first half of the 20th century, although they also include both modern and contemporary works, but the proportion is not high, and some literary genres such as black humor and new novel schools that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s are either very few (such as Bhutto's "Change"), or simply none. Feel more than enough stability and not enough novelty. In addition, this set of books seems to be more socially significant, and does not favor some writers who are known for their ideological or artistic nature, so many famous artists (such as Kafka, Sartre, Borges, Nabokov, Calvino, etc.) have no place in the series, and it cannot be said that there are some shortcomings.
