President Xi Jinping attended the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the legitimate seat of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations in Beijing on the 25th and delivered an important speech. Kang Xiao, associate professor of the School of International Relations of Beijing University of Foreign Chinese, pointed out in an exclusive interview with China Daily on the 25th that President Xi's speech was lofty, summing up the past and pointing out the future.
In his speech, Xi Jinping stressed that the 50 years since New China regained its legitimate seat in the United Nations have been 50 years of Peaceful Development and Benefit to Mankind.
Talking about the most impressive content of the speech, Kang Xiao said that in the speech, he talked about the role of restoring the legitimate seat of the United Nations in promoting China's domestic development and also talking about China's role in promoting the cause of the United Nations.
"This is a very macroscopic and comprehensive document that summarizes the development process of China and the United Nations in the past 50 years." Kang Xiao said.
The restoration of New China's legitimate seat in the United Nations is of great significance
In his speech, Xi Jinping stressed that the restoration of New China's legitimate seat in the United Nations is a major event in the world and a major event in the United Nations. This is of great and far-reaching significance to China and the world.
In Kang Xiao's view, over the past 50 years, China has been a practitioner of many of the United Nations' development goals, both in domestic and international affairs. From the perspective of domestic practice, whether it is the United Nations Millennium Development Goals or the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, China has been solidly writing these goals into major national policies and putting them into practice.
For example, the first goal of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is poverty reduction, and after hard work, China has achieved the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way, won the battle against poverty, and historically solved the problem of absolute poverty. Kang Xiao said, "A country with a population of more than 1.4 billion people has achieved poverty alleviation, which is definitely a huge achievement in the history of poverty alleviation for all mankind." ”
For example, addressing climate change is one of the many goals of the United Nations, and China has proposed a "double carbon" target and is implementing it into a number of domestic policies. In addition, China has also made great achievements in gender equality, the protection of women's and children's rights and interests, biodiversity conservation and other issues of concern to the United Nations.
At the international level, Kang Xiao said that China not only assists developing countries on a large scale, but also emphasizes fairness and justice in international affairs, so that developing countries can enjoy the well-being of UN-led global governance. For example, China attaches great importance to the interests of Pacific island countries in global climate governance.
China will make new contributions at a new starting point
In his speech, Xi Jinping stressed that standing at a new historical starting point, China will adhere to the road of peaceful development and always be a builder of world peace; adhere to the road of reform and opening up, and always be a contributor to global development; and adhere to the road of multilateralism and always be a defender of international order.
Facing the future, what new contributions will China make to the realization of sustainable and peaceful development in the world? In this regard, Kang Xiao analyzed it from three aspects.
First of all, Kang Xiao said that a strong, open and inclusive China is the key to the sustained and stable development of the United Nations. "There is a saying in China that the road of reform and opening up is the road to a strong country. Only by adhering to reform and opening up can China become stronger and stronger, and only when it becomes strong can it become a defender of international security and stability. Kang Xiao said that only through continuous opening up can China connect the large domestic market with the global market, truly achieve "domestic and international double circulation", and then promote global economic development; only by achieving tolerance can China promote the common development of the whole world.
Second, President Xi Jinping stressed in his speech that in the past 50 years, the Chinese people have always safeguarded the authority and status of the United Nations, practiced multilateralism, and deepened cooperation between China and the United Nations. Kang Xiao said that in the context of anti-globalization, some countries have circumvented the United Nations to engage in unilateralism, while China adheres to true multilateralism, pursues the global governance concept of consultation, co-construction and sharing, and practices multilateralism under the framework of the United Nations, and is the defender of the authority and status of the United Nations.
Third, Kang Xiao believes that in the future, China will contribute more Chinese ideas to the United Nations. He said that President Xi Jinping stressed in his speech that adhering to the concept of mutual benefit and win-win results and jointly promoting economic and social development to better benefit the people, like building a community with a shared future for mankind and discussing, building and sharing global governance, are all development-oriented global governance concepts advocated by China as a major developing country. "This reflects China's development-oriented view of global governance," Kang said, believing that China will continue to make more contributions to the United Nations in terms of ideas in the future.
