The musical "Band Visit" won 10 awards at the 72nd Tony Awards

New York, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The 72nd Tony Awards ceremony was held at the Radio City Concert Hall in New York on the evening of the 10th, and the Broadway musical "Band Visit" won 10 awards such as Best Musical, Best Musical Actor, Actress and Supporting Actor, and Best Original Score.

Adapted from an Israeli film of the same name, "Band Visits" tells the story of an Egyptian band who accidentally spends the night in a desert town in Israel. Both the townspeople and the band members find that the other person is not what they think they are, and the pursuit of music and love has dissolved the cultural barriers.

Based on the novel of the same name, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child won six awards, including Best Play, Best Director and Best Costume.

"Angel in America", which is full of care for AIDS patients, won three awards: Best Rehearsal Drama, Best Drama Actor, and Best Supporting Actor in a Drama.

In addition, "Three Tall Women" won the Best Drama Actress and Supporting Actress Award; "Heaven on Earth" won the Best Musical Theater Supporting Actress and Best Musical Theater Choreography Award; "Lady Miao" won the Best Musical Theater Costume Design Award; "SpongeBob SquarePants" won the Best Musical Theater Scene Design Award; and "Island Story" won the Best Rearrangement Musical Theater Award.

The Tony Awards were established by the American Dramatic Society in 1947 in recognition of outstanding plays performed annually at the Broadway Theater in New York. As the highest award in American theater, the Tony Awards are on a par with the Oscars in film, the Emmys in television, and the Grammys in music.
