On May 6, the Institute of Rural Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Social Sciences Literature Publishing House jointly released the "Rural Green Paper: Analysis and Forecast of China's Rural Economic Situation (2020-2021)". The Green Paper predicts that the per capita disposable income of farmers this year will reach 19,000 yuan.

The Green Paper points out that in 2020, China has generally overcome the adverse effects of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and actively played the role of positive factors such as policies, maintained rapid growth in farmers' income throughout the year, diversified sources and channels, contributed equally to farmers' incomes by wage income, net operating income and net transfer income, and narrowed the absolute and relative income gap between urban and rural residents.

Specifically, in 2020, the per capita disposable income of farmers was 17,131 yuan, an increase of 6.9% over the previous year, 3.4 percentage points faster than that of urban residents; the per capita disposable income of farmers calculated at the price of the previous year increased by 3.8%, 2.6 percentage points faster than that of urban residents. In 2020, the nominal growth rate of per capita disposable income of farmers fell by 3 percentage points compared with the previous year, and the increase in per capita disposable income of farmers in 2020 was relatively low in recent years. Due to the rapid growth of peasants' per capita disposable income, the relative income gap between urban and rural residents has further narrowed. In 2020, the absolute gap between the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents was 26,703 yuan, a decrease of 365 yuan over the previous year.

Looking forward to 2021, China will give priority to the development of agriculture and rural areas, comprehensively promote rural revitalization, accelerate agricultural and rural modernization, further consolidate and expand the results of poverty alleviation, continue to promote high-quality agricultural development, significantly improve the supply and demand relationship of major agricultural products, increase farmers' incomes rapidly, and continue to narrow the income gap between urban and rural residents.

The Green Paper predicts that in 2021, the added value of the primary industry will exceed 8 trillion yuan, the total grain output will be 680 million tons, the pork output will be 50 million tons, the increase in producer prices and food consumer prices of agricultural products will fall back to less than 5%, and the per capita disposable income of farmers will reach 19,000 yuan.
