Former site of St. James' Secondary School
There are many revolutionaries who have gone out of St. James's High School, and some famous people in modern history have visited here. In 1924, Wang Jiaxiang studied at St. James's High School and co-founded the progressive journal "Lion's Voice" with Wu Zuguang and others in the school. During his studies, Wang Jiaxiang led the progressive student movement and served as the main leader in the anti-imperialist and anti-slavery education wave in Wuhu that broke out in 1925. Yun Daiying, Li Kenong and other revolutionary martyrs of the older generation have left a deep mark on St. Jacob's High School; Li Kenong and Ah Ying have formed a lifelong friendship here; and the famous revolutionaries Gong Qiao Yan and Wu Baocai have also come to teach at the school.
The former site of St. James's Middle School is a national key cultural relics protection unit, with a total of three single buildings, namely Boren Hall, Yide Hall and Jingfang Hall, which constitute the "concave" character plane.
Anglican Recreation Academy
Nanling County Sheng Kung Hui Le Yu School, also known as the "Red Chamber", located in the northeast corner of Lingyang Middle Road Cross Street in Nanling County, is a revolutionary cultural relics, which was announced by the Wuhu Municipal Government as the fifth batch of municipal cultural relics protection units in November 2017.
The construction area of the Anglican Leyu School is about 560 square meters, the building is a brick and wood structure, two floors above and below, the walls and columns are built with red bricks, the building is well preserved, it is an important witness to the early modern culture and education of Nanling, and it has important historical research value for the study of the spread of Western religions in Nanling County and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
The Anglican School of Recreation was founded by the Episcopal Church in 1914. The school attaches great importance to English teaching, except for the Chinese language Chinese teaching materials, other courses are taught in English, and teachers also use English to teach and ask questions. From 1922 to 1924, Comrade Wang Jiaxiang, a loyal Marxist, an outstanding proletarian revolutionary, an outstanding leader of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and one of the pioneers of the Communist Party of China and new China's foreign work, studied here. During his studies at the Nanling Anglican Association Leyu Academy, Wang Jiaxiang studied diligently and assiduously, especially mastered the methods and skills of English grammar learning, and gradually practiced his oral English ability, laying an important foundation for future study abroad and engaging in diplomatic work.
The former site of Anhui University
The former site of Anhui University is located in the Ochre Mountain Campus of Anhui Normal University, No. 1 Beijing East Road, OchreShan Street, Jinghu District, Wuhu City.
On the eve of the people's liberation army's crossing of the river, the CPC Southern Anhui Prefectural Committee and the Wuhu underground party organizations at all levels successively issued instructions calling on all localities to adopt emergency measures to effectively protect the safety of factories and mines, enterprise organs, stations and docks, warehouses, colleges, property facilities, and various archives, so as to prevent the enemy from sabotage and defend the city.
After the Battle of Huaihai, the relocation faction led by the president advocated the relocation of Anhui College. Zhou Hefeng, Wu Daozha (Ren Ling), Dai Jianmo, and other party members of the underground party organization of the Wuhu Branch of the Nanjing (underground) Municipal CPC Committee in Anhui College carried out activities against the relocation of the school in accordance with the spirit of the instruction put forward by the Nanjing (underground) Municipal CPC Committee to "do everything possible to do a good job in the struggle to protect the school and usher in the liberation of Wuhu and Anyuan" and the actual situation of Anhui College, relying on progressive classmates, taking advantage of the relationship between fellow villagers, friends, classmates, and the same department, and using individual collusion, public propaganda, and writing big-character poster debates. After in-depth and meticulous publicity and organizational work, Zhou Hefeng and others led more than 1,000 students in the hospital to vote openly, and the result was that most teachers and students advocated not moving the school, thus winning the struggle to protect the school.
At that time, Zhu Zifan, a democrat, organized a "response committee" in the provincial government; the underground party organization of Anhui College then initiated the organization of the "Anhui College Response Committee" to legally organize school protection activities and stand guard day and night to prevent the enemy from looting and destroying. Under the leadership of the underground party of the Communist Party of China, the school buildings, instruments, books, etc. of Anhui College have been preserved intact.
