The "Guidelines for The Care of Troubled Skin" published by Magisches Element in Germany lists 16 common causes of barrier damage, the first of which is excessive cleaning.

Excessive cleaning can lead to excessive wear of a healthy stratum corneum, a significant reduction in the stratum corneal interstitium, and disruption of beneficial flora on the surface of the skin. Affected by this for a long time, the skin's barrier function will be damaged and the defense ability will be greatly reduced.
Skin with damaged keratin and barrier cannot effectively soothe external stimuli on its own, and is prone to sensitivity; percutaneous water loss is fast, easy to dry and dehydrated; capillaries are repeatedly dilated and prone to redness; bacteria and harmful substances are easy to invade, and inflammation and skin diseases are frequent.
The skin of this trait is fragile and sensitive. Even cleaning methods and products that are common in the eyes of ordinary people can aggravate the damage to the horn and barrier, so it is necessary to choose cleaning products very carefully and clean them carefully.
A significant proportion of people with damaged skin are related to excessive cleaning, and most of the damaged skin continue to be the wrong way of cleaning and the use of the wrong cleaning products after damage, which continues to aggravate the problem of skin damage. It's not that people with damaged skin don't care about the trouble caused by improper cleaning, but they generally don't understand how to clean damaged skin and what needs to be paid attention to. It was therefore very necessary to discuss this issue exclusively.

People with damaged skin who want to master how to properly clean the damaged skin must first figure out what is wrong. We are on the front lines of repairing damage all year round, and some common problems and errors in consumer care will come to us in large quantities. We've categorized, statistically, and analyzed information related to excessive cleaning over the last decade to summarize the following common mistakes in cleaning:
(1) High frequency cleaning. Under normal circumstances, the skin can be cleansed twice a day. If it is more than 2 times a day, it can be regarded as high-frequency cleaning, or excessive cleaning.
(2) Strong cleaning.
In order to make the skin of the face cleaner, more comprehensive and deeper, a variety of cleansing products are used at the same time;
Or the amount of product used per cleaning exceeds normal levels;
Or use soap base, facial cleanser, cleaning brush, cleaning mask and other cleaning products with excessive cleaning power;
Or rub your hands over massage, use a cleaning product such as a cotton pad to physically rub the skin;
Or use scrubs, acids and other cleaning products that have an exfoliating effect.
(3) The cleaning time is too long. Cleaning time of more than 1 minute is excessive cleaning for those with damaged skin.
(4) The water temperature of clean water is not suitable. Damaged skin is more sensitive and intense to hot and cold feedback than normal skin, and it is not suitable for sensitive skin to clean with water that is too low or too hot, or to clean with alternating hot and cold.
(5) Not partitioned clean. The same cleaning products and cleaning methods for damaged areas as non-damaged areas can exacerbate damage or cause other skin problems.
↑ Error: Use of cleaning products with exfoliating effects such as acids
↑ Error: Clean the skin in a physical friction
↑Mistake: Use cleaning products that are too clean, such as cleaning masks
↑Mistake: Clean the skin with a cleaning product such as a cotton pad in a physical rubbing manner
↑ Error: Cleaning products with excessive cleaning power such as facial cleansers and cleaning brushes
↑Error: Use of soap-based cleaning products
↑ Error: Cleaning time is too long
↑ Error: Partition cleaning is not done
These above-mentioned wrong cleaning methods need to be understood not only by those with damaged skin, but also by consumers who have not yet exhibited damage. Damaged skin should be vigorously avoided during the repair process and in the daily skin care after repair.
In addition to understanding the above wrong cleaning methods, people with damaged skin also need to learn to recognize some common ingredients that are irritating to the skin and may cause damage to the horn and barrier when choosing cleaning products. These harmful ingredients are mainly divided into five categories, which are ↓:
(1) Risky solvents, impermeable agents and preservatives.
Ethanol, phenoxyethanol, parabens, edtaacetic acid, propylene glycol, methylchloroisothiazolinone, etc. are irritating to sensitive skin and can cause allergies;
Imidazolyl urea and DMDM hydantoin will release formaldehyde, which can cause damage to the skin with long-term use;
Polyethylene glycol as a pro-seepage agent has a certain risk of sensitization, and long-term use will affect the function of the reproductive system;
Triethanolamine is generally used as an acid-base regulator, which has certain irritation and may cause cancer.
(2) Soap base and strong alkali. The surface of healthy skin is weakly acidic, while soap-based surfactants such as dodecanoic acid (lauric acid), hexadecanoic acid (palmitic acid), octadecanoic acid (polyether), myristic acid, sodium stearate, are strong alkaline, cleansing power, excessive removal of oil, easy to lead to damage to barrier function, long-term use will also accelerate skin aging.
(3) Sulfates. Surfactants such as sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate and other surfactants have strong cleaning power, great irritation, and will cause damage to the skin barrier and accelerate skin aging like soap groups.
(4) Can peel off the class. Acidic components such as salicylic acid, tartaric acid, glycolic acid, sodium citrate, and acetic acid can exfoliate, causing keratin to thin and impair barrier function.
(5) Flavors and fragrances. Additives commonly used in cleaning products such as industrial flavors and colorants can irritate the skin and cause allergies.

How should people with damaged skin properly clean their skin in the process of repairing damage?
(1) If the damaged skin is locally damaged, it should be partitioned and cleaned. Damaged areas and other non-damaged areas should choose their own suitable cleaning products and use different cleaning methods.
(2) People with damaged skin should use a combination of water and mild amino acid cleanser to clean the skin in the damaged area. Daily should be based on water, oil secretion is not strong, generally about 3-7 days can be used a mild amino acid cleanser to clean the damaged skin.
(3) When the damaged skin cleans the damaged area, if it is dry sensitive skin, the water temperature should be controlled at about 25 ° C, this temperature should feel slightly cool in summer, and the temperature should feel gradually warm in autumn and winter; if it is oily sensitive skin, the water temperature should be controlled at about 35 ° C, this temperature is close to the body temperature, which can help clean excess oil.
(4) The daily cleaning time of the damaged skin should not exceed 1 minute at a time, not more than 2 times a day, and once in the morning and once in the evening.
(5) People with damaged skin should avoid products with strong cleaning power and ingredients that may cause irritation and damage to the skin when choosing cleaning products. Amino acid cleaning products should be selected, such products in general, mature and mild formulation, moderate cleaning force, a wide range of applications, whether dry sensitive or oil sensitive can be used.
(6) When cleaning the damaged skin, the damaged skin should try to use the gentle way of washing with water in hand to clean the skin and reduce physical contact and friction. At the same time, it should be avoided to clean the damaged skin with products such as facial cleansers, cotton pads, cleansing brushes, cleansing masks, scrubs, etc.
In addition to daily cleaning, people with damaged skin may also have the need for makeup and makeup removal because of their work.
