The "one test for life" has begun! Explain the new scoring system in detail

Today (September 30th) is the first day of the Singapore Primary Six Examination and the first and most important exam in the lives of Singaporean children.

"One test is set for life" primary six will be tested

Many friends who are not in Singapore may not know what the Primary Six exam is. The Primary Six Examination refers to the primary school graduation examination, similar to China's "XiaoshengChu". Primary school students in Singapore take four subjects in English, Mathematics, Mother Tongue and Science.

Many people call China's college entrance examination "a test for life", and Singapore's came earlier, and the 12-year-old exam is likely to determine a person's future life.

Depending on the Results of the Primary 6 Examination, students will be assigned to different secondary schools:

The best grades will enter the "famous school" of the through train, and do not have to take the middle school examination (O level/N level test);

Middle school with higher grades and 4-year express classes;

Those with intermediate grades or below attend the general academic class, while some people are assigned to the 5-year general craft class.

New scoring system for 2021

In order to alleviate the anxiety and tension about grades among students and parents, Singapore's Ministry of Education began to adopt a new "Level 8" point system (AL) this year.

Candidates' scores in each subject will be divided into AL1 to AL8, of which AL1 is the best, counting 1 point, AL2 is counted as 2 points, and so on.

The overall grade will combine AL grades in four subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue. That is to say, the best score for the overall score is AL 1 x 4 subjects = 4 points, and the lowest overall score is AL 8 x 4 subjects = 32 points.

Students will use the final AL points to apply for secondary school. At present, the source flow classification of secondary schools has not changed, and it is still divided into express classes, ordinary academic classes and ordinary craft classes.

Under this new points system, students' grades will be based on their individual performance in various subjects. The Ministry of Education said the new system would better reflect student performance rather than over-compare it with other students.

This year's Primary Six Examination will start on September 30 and end on October 6.

Here, "Singapore Eye" wishes all the young candidates all the best, the title of the gold list!
