Build a solid and indestructible defense line - the city's medical waste collection and disposal personnel adhere to the last line of defense of epidemic prevention and control

On the "battlefield" of epidemic prevention and control in the city, there is such a group of staff members who are not well known to the public, who are not in the front line of prevention and control, but have "close contact" with the epidemic every day; they are not medical personnel, but they walk in various medical institutions and nucleic acid sampling points in the city.

They are the medical waste collection and disposal staff of the City's Ecological and Environmental Bureau who work in the night and adhere to the last line of defense of the city's epidemic prevention and control.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment has responded positively, summoning party members and cadres and workers to go deep into the three towns, communities and isolated hotels overnight to distribute epidemic prevention materials, and after the first round of nucleic acid testing for the whole people was launched, a special class for the collection and disposal of epidemic-related medical waste was organized at the first time, and the members of the leadership team led the team to carry out relevant work.

In order to comprehensively win the complex and severe epidemic encounter and resistance battle, as of now, the city has carried out three rounds of national nucleic acid testing in a timely manner. Due to tight working hours, large numbers of people and heavy tasks, it was late at night after each test.

In order to ensure the smooth progress of nucleic acid testing for the whole people, the medical waste collection personnel of the special work class insist on overcoming various difficulties such as small number of personnel, many points, wide distribution, long transfer distance, etc., in the night, rushing to 202 nucleic acid testing points and 18 isolation hotels in the city, collecting medical waste in a timely manner, and adhering to the last line of defense of urban environmental safety with practical actions.

From early morning to late at night, and from late night to early morning, they have not slowed down, wearing "airtight armor" composed of masks, goggles, gloves and protective clothing, continuously "turning" at every point, quickly collecting medical waste, always keeping in mind "life first, people first".

Since the launch of the national nucleic acid test on October 18, the special work classes have collected a total of 19.065 tons of medical waste. Among them, 10.029 tons were collected from 202 nucleic acid sampling points and 18 isolated hotels, and 9.036 tons were collected from various medical institutions.

After each work team has collected the epidemic-related medical waste at its own point of responsibility, it will be transported to the centralized medical waste disposal center 25 kilometers away overnight, and disposed of it in accordance with the process of designated sanitary landfill after high temperature and autoclaving.

Late at night in the late autumn, the weather is cold, but the temperature in the centralized disposal center is high, coupled with the sharp increase in the amount of epidemic-related medical waste, which brings great challenges to the disposal work.

"Heavily armed" medical waste disposal personnel, dressed in sweat-soaked clothes, continue to stick to the front line of operation, actively cope with multiple pressures, and safely dispose of medical waste day and night. Disposal equipment with 24-hour continuous operation sometimes fails, and they must quickly check and troubleshoot and continue to work, and adhere to the last line of defense of epidemic prevention and control with practical actions. Up to now, the centralized medical waste disposal center has safely disposed of 14.7577 tons of epidemic-related medical waste (of which 2.75 tons are coordinated by industrial furnaces and kilns).

Among all the medical waste collection and disposal workers in our city, there are party members, cadres and workers, and temporary personnel. They gave up their small homes for everyone, overcame the difficulties of the epidemic, and held the defense line with high morale, only for the indestructible defense line of the city's epidemic defense line.
