The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea recently issued Announcement No. 2020-157, which intends to amend some of the contents of the Codex on Food Additives.
Specific contents include: expanding the scope of certification of the natural source of propionic acid in the general principles of food additives; modifying the ingredient specifications of three kinds of food additives such as beeswax: increasing the CAS number of beeswax, making the content of sorbitol liquid consistent with international standards such as CODEX, making the name of sodium chloride in the definition of sodium saccharin preparation consistent with the food type of the Codex Alimentarius; and modifying the ingredient specification test method and 5 general test methods of 47 kinds of food additives such as guar gum; Modification of the standards for the use of 24 kinds of food additives such as manganese gluconate: According to the revision of the Codex Alimentarius, the standards for the use of 11 kinds of food additives such as manganese gluconate in the Codex of Food Additives were revised; in order to be consistent with the specifications of edible sea salt in the Codex Alimentarius, the standards for the use of 3 kinds of food additives such as sodium ferrocyanide were modified; and the standards for the use of 4 kinds of food additives such as benzoin acid in mayonnaise were modified according to the provisions of the mayonnaise allowed to use sorbic acid Revised the duplicate food types in the standards for the use of six food additives, such as sodium metabisulfite; revised the name of the Electronic Supplies Safety Management Law cited in the Codex to the Electronic Supplies and Daily Necessities Safety Management Law.
