Cold Food Festival, a traditional Chinese festival, is celebrated 105 days after the winter solstice in the summer calendar and one or two days before the Qingming Festival. At the beginning of the day, when the festival is held, no fire is smoked and only cold food is eaten. In the development of later generations, the customs of sweeping, stepping on the green, swing, bowing, pulling, cockfighting and so on were gradually added, and the cold food festival lasted for more than 2,000 years, and was once known as the first major festival day in China. The Cold Food Festival is the only festival among the traditional Han Festivals named after food customs.

In 636 BC, Prince Zhong'er of the Jin Dynasty ended his nineteen-year exile and returned to the Jin Dynasty as a monarch. In these nineteen years of suffering, a group of followers have been faithful, endured hardships, protected heavy ears, and made meritorious achievements. While passing through the weiguo countryside, heavy ears fainted from hunger, and the meson pushed off the flesh on his legs to save heavy ears.
The Jin Dynasty, who had become the monarch, did not forget these followers, and they were rewarded and reused. Only the meson pushed to be ashamed of accepting the reward, and he believed that following the heavy ear was completely natural and deserved, not the reason for pursuing the high-ranking official Houlu. So he took his mother into seclusion to Mianshan (mianshan in present-day Jiexiu, Shanxi). Jin Wengong took care of every opportunity and gradually forgot about this matter.
But Jie Zhang, a good friend of The Meson Tui, has not forgotten, and he feels that Jin Wengong is unfair to the Meson Push. So he wrote a letter to hang at the city gate. After Jin Wengong knew about it, he thanked the kindness of the meson and immediately personally took people to Mianshan to look for it. Due to the lush vegetation on the mountain, the entourage wanted to burn the dry grass to find the meson push. Unexpectedly, Meiko pushed her mother and was burned to death under a willow tree.
Jin Wengong was remorseful and ordered: On the fifth day of March on the day of the death of the meson, do not make a fire to cook, but eat cold food.
The ancients set the Cold Food Festival as one hundred and five days after the winter solstice, about one or two days before the Qingming Festival. Nowadays, people often equate the Cold Food Festival with the Qingming Festival, and the Cold Food Festival is the Qingming Festival.
