On October 14, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment commended and awarded the fifth batch of national ecological civilization demonstration zones, and Foshan City, Shanwei City and Dongguan City in Guangdong Province were selected; the Ministry of Ecology and Environment also commended and awarded the representatives of the fifth batch of "Green Water and Green Mountains are Golden Mountains and Silver Mountains" Practice innovation bases, and Dapeng New District of Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, and Meixian District of Meizhou City were selected.
In 2016, Guangdong issued the Implementation Opinions on Accelerating the Construction of Ecological Civilization in Our Province, which clearly puts the promotion of green development and ecological civilization construction in a prominent strategic position. Since 2017, the national ecological civilization construction demonstration city and county and the "green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains" practice innovation base have been created as an important carrier for the construction of ecological civilization.
Up to now, the province has created a total of 7 national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities, 18 national ecological civilization construction demonstration counties, and 5 "green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains" practice and innovation bases. In 2021, the provincial government and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment signed a framework agreement on cooperation in jointly building a world-class beautiful bay area to further promote the construction of ecological civilization in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and explore the path to the realization of beautiful Guangdong.
The award ceremony was held at the Ecological Civilization Forum, a parallel event of the United Nations Conference on Biodiversity. A total of 102 regions were selected as national ecological civilization demonstration zones in this batch; 49 regions won the title of "Green Water and Green Mountains are Golden Mountains and Silver Mountains" Practice innovation base.
