Fragrant fruit tree is a national second-level key protected plant, unique to China, originated from the Mesozoic Cretaceous Period about 100 million years ago, known as "living fossils", known as "the most beautiful and moving tree in China's forests", with high scientific research value. Fragrant fruit trees are large deciduous trees that prefer moist and fertile soils, and are mainly distributed in the northeast to central Yunnan.

Wu Yunfeng, deputy director of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Anning City:

When we did the Plant Resources Survey in 2020, we found this species of fragrant fruit tree. Later, I checked the information that it was a national second-class rare and endangered plant, and the place with the most anning fruit trees was beacon mountain village, and there were a few sporadic ones in other places. After discovering this situation, we asked experts from the Institute of Botany to do a census for us in December last year and listed it on the mountain.

In order to better protect the wild community of these fragrant fruit trees, the Municipal Forestry and Grassland Bureau has taken a number of measures.

The first is to ask the Kunming Branch of the Yunnan Forestry Planning and Design Institute to help us do the planning of the protection community, and it is expected to complete this planning in October, and the next step is that we have budgeted 1.5 million yuan as a source of funds for this protected community.

The second is that we plan to completely fence this 320 acres of mountain forest and fence it with barbed wire, in order to prohibit too many people from going in to graze and harvest.

The third is that we plan to build a guard house around this mountain forest, professionally manage this fragrant fruit tree, and build a seedling breeding base next to the fragrant fruit tree.
