Unfolding the canvas, the first volume presents a line of inscription by Li Yu, the lord of the Southern Tang Dynasty: "Jiang Xing Chu Xue Southern Tang Student Zhao Gan", indicating the title and author of this painting.

"Student" is a kind of official rank of the Southern Tang Painting Academy, not a disciple who learns to paint, and this official rank is used by the Song Dynasty Painting Academy. Zhao Gan, a native of Jiangning, Jiangsu Province, according to the "Xuanhe Pictorial Notation", Zhao Gan's paintings are mostly Jiangnan style objects, such as Louguan, Water Village, Fish Market, etc. "The First Snow Map of Jiangxing" may be the only surviving work of Zhao Gan.

Cold cold, too cold

The long scroll unfolds on the open water, and the reeds in the water sway with the wind, revealing a desolate atmosphere, and the two trackers next to them are hunched over the boat.

Cold cold, too cold

There was a horse rider on the shore, followed by a child. What is particularly special here is the horse's bony bones, its slender neck overwhelmed by the cold wind, and its eyes glaring out of the painting, revealing a miserable and dissatisfied expression.

Cold cold, too cold

Moving forward, several young "little fishermen" were pulling nets on the boat to catch fish, the grass canopy on the boat had been cracked by the wind, and one child was unclothed in the cold wind, and the other three had different expressions and seemed to be busy having fun.

Cold cold, too cold

On the other side of the river, two travelers with their own children were marching, the children carrying their bags, cowering in the cold, and a small child was covering his mouth with his hand and breathing heavily, presumably his hands were already frozen and numb. The two donkeys were also skinny and skinny, and the one in front of them turned his head, his expression revealing sadness.

Cold cold, too cold

Between the rivers, some fishermen are collecting their nets, some are waiting for their nets, some are punting boats, and the hard-working fishermen do not seem to feel the sudden wind and snow.

Snow falls everywhere, while fishermen have to wear thin clothes to work in the wind and snow, and some stand barefoot in the cold water to lay nets.

This painting is a rare work of ancient people who attach equal importance to landscape and water, and it is more set off by the scenery.

The weather was cold and snowy, but the fishermen were calm in the face of the sudden wind and snow; the passengers on the shore rode home on donkeys, although they were dressed thickly and showed the color of bitter cold. Fishermen and travelers, ordinary laborers and guests of fine clothes and food are a perfect contrast against the backdrop of flying snow.

Cold cold, too cold

Although the life of fishing is difficult, the fishermen can still enjoy themselves.

Like the ancients in the painting, sometimes we must face the wind, brave the snow, smile, and move forward silently.
