The Zhenning Fort built by Lu Rongting

Zhenning Fort is located in Wangxianpo, Nanning People's Park. It consists of three parts: a fort, an iron cannon and a wall. In September 1917, Lu Rongting, in order to defend Nanning, ordered the demolition of the Liugong Ancestral Hall, the construction of a fort, and the transport of an iron cannon mounted on the platform from Pinggongling in Longzhou County, and the project was completed in July of the following year and named "Zhenning Fort". The iron cannon on the fort was made by the German Kruber factory in 1890, and is a fixed land defense cannon with the gun number "130" and a range of 12,000 meters. The gun body rotates freely along the rails and shoots in three directions. The outer wall of the fort is made of red sandstone masonry into a bunker, 4.65 meters high, 4.95 meters away from the battery, and there are gun holes in the surrounding outer wall, and there are gates and entrances and exits to the upper and lower batteries in the north and south. The fort is 5 meters high and 13.6 meters long, also made of red sandstone, and has 4 bridges connected to the wall. Located in the middle of the fort, the iron cannon is 3.1 meters high and 5.5 meters long, and the tail of the gun barrel is engraved with the inscription "N0130FRIED1890", and the entire iron gun is composed of a gun barrel, a gun mount, an iron wheel and a rail. The left wall of the south gate of the fort is inlaid with a stone stele with Lu Rongting's "Record of the New Zhenning Fort", which records the significance and process of the construction of the Zhenning Fort. In 1982, it was announced as a cultural relics protection unit of Nanning City. It covers an area of about 860 square meters. The purpose of the construction of the Zhenning Fort was "external enemy intimidation, internal suffering, Wei Nanfu, Kang Guimin". Lu Rongting personally wrote the record of jiantai and carved a stone monument to commemorate it.
